I often times hear the Sheriff's Department secure their radio's and then all that I can hear is the dispatcher but not the officer. Does anyone know how they are doing this? Are the using a different PL tone or something?

Maybe dispatch turns off the repeat function of the base station, then it becomes a 2 freq (TX F1, RX F2) base, so what comes in the RX only goes to dispatch, and what dispatch says only goes out the TX?

Just one thought.

I've observed the same practice there, and all they're doing is dropping the repeat function. You should still be able to hear the mobile traffic on the repeater input frequency.
