To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi, does anyone know how I can add a 1750 Hz (or another frequency) call tone on a MCS2000? It is A VHF radio, model M01KHM9PW5BN.

Thanks in advance

Does that radio have “single tone” ability? (I’m not sure if that’s even used anymore) but that would be a way to do that.

I don't know. In which menu should I look to find out if I have this ability?

Now I understand what you mean. In the menu for the conventional personalities in the codeplug there is a tab "Signaling", and if I choose the option "MDC" in this tab, the menu in the tab "RAC" in the same personality can be accessed. However, only the option "MDC" can be chosen in this menu, no singletone. Do you know if I can get the MDC to make a singletone in some way?

I don’t believe so. I believe “single tone” is a different signaling option that might not be available in that radio. MDC will give you that data burst, it’s different than single-tone. I recall my older portable radios (Jedi series) had that.

I used to “ping” a short, 1000hz tone prior to transmissions to open repeaters.
Others may know better than me. Sorry

Thanks, I have actually built an external audio oscillator that I hold in front of the microphone - not the most professional solution, but it works!

Maybe you can help me with another annoying problem: when I put a PL tone (CTCSS) on the receiver, the MCS2000 also receives emissions without CTCSS (from my signal generator, for example). Every personality has 3 options in the submenu "Unmute/Mute Type" of the menu "RX options": "Standard", "And Unmute, Std Mute" og "And Unmute, Or Mute", but none of them work. In transmission, the CTCSS codes are transmitted normally. Any idea what I can do?

Thanks in advance
