• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can anyone recommend an affordable CB base station antenna?

I can do the research and have before but that was a few years ago during COVID. I'm just looking for something external that can easily fit on a 10ft mast.

Is there anything for the $100-200 range that is quality but affordable?

I would recommend the Antron A-99 antenna. I had one up for many years and it never failed me. I currently have a Imax 2000 up about 36 feet and it has several years on it. Both are great antennas in my opinion.

I agree both are fine with the Imax putting out a better signal. Here is an old design that works well and is not very expenive.

Thanks KI4ZNG... I think this was the antenna I had looked at... the Solarcon model. I also looked at the PT99 version but they both are similar.

I briefly looked last night and I do remember the IMAX 2000 model as well. That got solid reviews and seemed to be of decent quality.

I might spring for the Optimizer model + GP kit but the A99 might be a good compromise. Amazon has the A99 + GP kit on Prime right now.

No real need for the GP kit on the A99, it would be hard to measure any improvement.

I had a Serio 827 a few years ago. Used it for 10m ham. (Had to take it down when I moved, and haven't put it back up yet.)

Excellent performer, good gain 1.5dbd, and surprisingly well built.

Don't bother with the radial ring unless you live somewhere that is constantly hammered by high wind.

I put up a Sirio 2016 for a friend and was impressed with the construction and performance. I think it fits within the budget and is a newer version of the 827.

Wow I like it Bill. I like the overall size. I've been looking at Sirio antennas for a while, so I guess I have an excuse to get one now. ;)
