• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello

I have 2 IG radio licenses both with the same area of operation and some frequency are the same but not all, but each one has its own commercial eligibility. I am seriously considering ending one of my business and just keeping one. Unfortunately the business I am ending has the better radio system of the two. Can I merge my second license into my first license?

Are they under the same FRN, or two different ones?

Same FRN. The first system I had was or is just much better than the second system.

That might be a good question for the FCC.

Seems like two options:
Either file for a modification for the license you want to keep. This may require involving a frequency coordinator and cost money.
-or-
Modify the license and change the name. <— likely easier. Since it's the same FRN, it's probably simple. Or, you may contact the FCC and someone will say "don't worry about it". Companies change names all the time. If the contact info and location data is the same, I doubt the FCC is going to be upset.

I think you can do this via License Manager function on the FCC page. https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsEntry/licManager/login.jsp

To change names or contact info without re-coordinating/re-qualifying, I think you're asked to confirm that it does not represent something like a "change in control", and will probably point you to documentation where that is defined. I don't know if different corporations (legal entities) are considered the same for this purpose even if they are 100%-owned by the same person/entity (if that's what you're describing). Read what they point you to and you'll probably want to verify with a phone call. Seems like they'd be happy that you're returning some frequencies – I'd bet the majority of licensees don't bother, leaving lots of wasted licensed but unused spectrum out there. :|
