The other day I saw a Sheriff and State Trooper investigating a vehicle. Do the State Troopers operate on DPS or do they share communications on the Sheriffs system, like I've read in some areas, if so any idea what there unit designation is? Thanks

In Houston we monitor DPS but a lot of times they will switch over to the Sheriffs Dept when they need a wrecker or on view and accident and they let the Sherrif know he is going to work it

Your probably monitoring them on TxWARN, for this area it's Region 3 DPS Weslaco Lower Valley Regional Radio System LVRRS, anyhow it looks like Brooks is the closest site and it doesn't look like it reaches all of Kingsville.

Of course try the DPS Region 3 frequencies first for CC or whatever is close. The use of the LVRRS is an additional system if needed for DPS...by law the trooper should have a SO radio in their vehicle. You will hear them identify with their DPS unit designator...somewhere in the RRDB or the Wiki is a better explanation, but it should be 3C???...the 3 for the region and the rest of the unit number is rank and other info. I know it's in here somewhere, I just can't find it tonight. When the units here in NTX operate on another system, it is always with their DPS designated number. That area may be a no man's land for the VHF P25 frequencies the DPS uses! It's lonely in that stretch of TX....

I looked at the RR county level. I don't see any Kingsville, Texas or Kleberg county mentioned anywhere in TxWarn or GATRRS.

I do see where Kleberg county is one of the three counties documented for this system: Coastal Bend Regional Interoperability Network Trunking System, Varies, Texas.

I believe this system is a work in progress. I don't see any talk groups yet.

In do see a Kleberg Phase 1 system, but there are no talk groups specific to Kingsville or DPS. Kleberg County Public Services Trunking System, Kingsville, Texas

If I wanted the system, I would load DPS Region 3 for the Corpus Christi area. DPS may eventually have some talk groups on the first system posted above. Or, possibly, the talk groups associated with DPS have not been discovered and submitted.

Can you say what law says the trooper should have an SO radio in their vehicle? Who provides the radio?

Its been awhile; its in the Government Code somewhere. I believe access is also part of State funding requirements.

It's not directly in statute. It could potentially be tied to grant funding requirements for radio systems -- or even as a condition of local governments having access to TCIC/TLETS.

I've also heard the dispatcher patch the DPS TG to the local sheriff's TG during volatile incidents, such as a high-speed pursuit.
which TRS system are you hearing this on? Wonder if its a patch or a fulltime TG for the DPS on the SO system?

Is that programmed as single trunk? Is that only for the Corpus area or is is surrounding as well? Thanks
155.8875 is a single stand alone conventional P25 repeater located near Riviera. I don't know what the coverage area is. Probably less than 40 miles. How you program it depends on what scanner you have.

There is no law but the state enter into a "MOA" memorandum of agreement to access the county radio system. The state provides the radio. Part of the APCO P25 project was to allow interoperability between agencies. With the smaller agencies it's not as big of an issue but with the large systems like TxWARN there is legal paperwork exchanged regarding programming. system keys, encryption keys, radio tracking, site access etc...

I hear DPS on the following:
DPS Corpus Christi Dispatch 155.467500 NAC 118
DPS Falfurrias Dispatch 155.887500 NAC 123
DPS Three Rivers Dispatch 155.210000 NAC 137

Hope this helps out
