To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have the frequency 462.575 as receive and 467.575 as transmit with a PL of 67.0 but I can't connect to the repeater. Any help?

Are you using HandHeld or mobile. How far from repeater are you?

Do you have the proper PL/access tones set correctly ? Hardly any open repeaters anywhere.

Can be one of two possible things, assuming you actually have the proper frequencies programmed:
1 - The PL tone is incorrect
2 - You are out of range of the repeater

It would be helpful to to know what repeater you're talking about. FCC callsign, state, county, city, anything at all. You're posting in a nationwide GMRS forum.

Also, if finding an open repeater on that frequency is what you're alluding to (aka the Travel Channel), the PL tone used is 141.3 Hz. I would set the TX PL as 141.3 Hz, and leave the RX side CSQ.

OK.So first do you know the repeater is there and actually works. Did you drive to the location. Can you hear anything ? How is the radio programmed ? You should have a conventional personality then a zone with the channel info. Direct / Talkaround on ?

Make sure radio is not in talkaround and that the PL transmit tone is the same as receive on the repeater. Sometimes owners have different input pl's to keep out kerchunkers or when running 2 repeaters with same output for better coverage.

Repeater may not be passing or sending transmit pl. Set your Rx to "carrier" (CSQ) with no pl and see if that works.
Are you set up with the proper bandwidth? GMRS repeaters are usually wide FM.

Maybe it’s the bandwidth. I’ll try again

GMRS repeaters are traditionally wide, 5KHz deviation/25KHz channel width. I'm sure there may be some narrow band users, but it would be pretty rare.

And I'd agree on the PL output tone of the repeater.
They may not be sending a tone on the output
-or-
They may be using a different output tone than the input.

Best thing to do is to ask the owner what they are actually doing.
