• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just received a used G5 800/VHF and am trying to program it. I have PPS_V00-03-17_BETA12 installed. When I attempt to read it a box pops up saying, The unipps file is unrecognizable, please check if it is from a PPS which has a different version. When I attempt to program a new file it says it's the wrong model.

The radio says it's a G5B64BF-SXVXEN1400 UNI-0012-160728. I thought I found that model in the list but did I grab the wrong one? I'm not sure what the issue is.

According to the website the current version of the PPS for the G5 is PPS: V0.3.16.29E, not sure about your version. Did you download it from the Unication website?

Your PPS version is for programming v1.40 beta firmware.

You need to open the .unipps file in the current public release of PPS (v3.16.29e), which is a few versions behind. Can get it from the Unication website here.

OK, I guess I must have bumped into that other version when looking for SW in preparation of getting this in the mail. I do have the regular version too and now it's reading it. I swore that was what was downloaded but obviously not. I must have found it in a forum link or something.

Anyway...thanks for the replies.

That's where I got it. It pulled down that other version. Did I get one that has some beta scanning firmware in it or something and it's not supported?
That PPS was built to support programming pagers that have been flashed with the scanning firmware. But the PPS itself doesn’t have any firmware within it. It’s just updated code that can talk to the pager and program scanning features. For reasons I don’t know, Unication sometimes requires PPS be used with a specific firmware.

Until a few weeks ago, PPS v3.16.24beta was the current release and could program pagers running v1.30, v1.31, and v1.32

When they released firmware v1.33 they also pushed out PPS 3.16.29e

In putting the cart before the horse about 2yr ago they started developing scanner firmware and named it multiple versions ahead of the current public release. That firmware is v1.40 and the corresponding PPS they provided to program it was 3.17.xx - there’s been a few versions of that “fork” of PPS if you will, and I think the current version is 3.17 beta 12 (aka v3.17.12).

So, now that's sorted. Working on trying to figure out the key thing now but it doesn't recognize the radio. Ugh.....

EDIT: Ahh... you have to put it in keyload mode first in the menu on the device.
