willtorres: I did all ur steps indicated to connect PC to scanner (PRO-668), in the step when I expanded COM&LPT in device manager dont show me any scanner device only show "Serial device USB (COM4)". But pro-668 appears in "disk units" as RS PRO-668 MSD USB device. What can I do? In advance thanks!

Use ezscan from whistler for the ws1080 model. it was just updated yesterday and has a fix in it to address the windows 10 driver issue. Give it a shot!

thanks de xe2kaf
Tell it to use it anyway otherwise it will never work.

 AND everyone else who disables this security feature to install their radios!

 This procedure will let you disable the unsigned driver block in win 8/10. To re-enable it after you install the driver (system protection), you have to shut down the system using the shift button (pressed) while shutting down your system. Win 8/10 does not fully shut your system down, it enters a partial shutdown. Win 8/10 unsigned driver block WILL NOT be re-enabled unless you completely shut down your system using the shift key while shutting down. When you start your system up again, it will be re-enabled/reset by default. Only then will the system be protected from unsigned drivers being installed. It is a system protection feature so I would consider re-enabling this security feature.

.inf file

I can't find the file that I need to copy off the SD card in order to make this fix happen. There is no .INF folder or file on it. I have tried with the SD card in the scanner connected via a USB cord and I pulled the SD card out of the scanner and placed it directly into my laptop. Still can't find it. Is there anyone that can help with this?

do a search on your computer for "RadioShack_PRO-668.inf" without the quotes. Make sure you have your computer set to see hidden files before you start....google how to do that if you don't know how.

OR join this facebook group "Radio Shack PRO-668 Handheld iScan Digital Trunking Scanner"

https://www.facebook.com/groups/809759642433559/

as the files are in the file section for download.

Have you tried using a different USB cable? I was having troubles at first then I switched the cable and it finally worked. Must have had an intermittent short.

I have used the same method on different PCs running 10 and it always worked for me.

Have you updated the firmware to WS1080 3.8? If not, stick to the Pro668 iScan app.

Thanks. I will try this.

QUOTE=willtorres918;2431669]I don't usually make tutorials but I'll give it my best shot. This is what I did. I do not take credit for this, this is someone else's work. If I could remember who, I wish to thank you. This is from memory so do it at your own risk.

If you've backed up the Pro 668 Folder from your scanner, locate it and find the "inf" folder. It will only work if you have it on the PC. Open it and copy the "RadioShack_PRO-668.inf" file somewhere easily accessible like the desktop or just keep it there and remember how to get to it.

1. Click on the Start Menu, Click on power, then hold the Shift key and click Restart at the same time.
2. After the PC restarts click on Troubleshoot, click on Advanced options, click Start Up Settings then click Restart.
3. After the PC restarts Press the number 7 to Disable driver signature enforcement. Windows will now load.
4. Locate the "RadioShack_PRO-668.inf" Right click on it and choose Install. You'll get a warning but go ahead and install it.
5. Plug in your scanner, right click on Start Menu, choose Device Manager.
6. Expand "Ports (COM & LPT)" If you have more than one device here you'll have to figure out which is the scanner and then right click on it. choose Update Driver Software
7. Choose "Browse My Computer for Driver Software" then "Let me pick from a list of devices.."
8. Check the box "Show compatible hardware" Click on "RadioShack_PRO-668 Serial Device" Then click next. You should get a screen that says "Windows has successfully updated your driver software"

I hope this works for you.[/QUOTE]
