I heard testing and see techs doing the upgrade flashes to the Natrona County 800MHz system.

Word on the street is that they will switch sometime Wednesday.

Transition yesterday. The "old" 800Mhz site is not longer functioning. So time to map the new one!!!

Today they are getting the WyoLink patch levels adjusted just right. So far, I am hearing 800Mhz traffic being simulcast on the WyoLink Casper mountain site. While the link or patch or whatever you want to call it is only active when a WyoLink subscriber is listening to 800 traffic, I am told that most apparatus will keep the 800 and 150 radios on the same dispatch TG at all times. So we should be able to reliably listen to Casper safety traffic on WyoLink.

Ok, some info I am getting on the new 800 system in Casper.

Control channel 860.2125
Traffic on,
858.2125
856.7125
857.2125
855.2125
856.2125
857.2125

I am getting a large number of TGs that seem encrypted. I don't know why my pro-197 is receiving them as it usually just skipped over them in Wildcard.

So far TG 13215 is station alert
13148 is Fire Disp 1 and is in the clear.

LOL, I got most of that finally figured out. But your list is missing a few TGs. I will try to get them tomorrow and get them posted.

Thanks!!!

Casper PSCC

Hi folks,

I am a old Ex Navy chief living here in Casper and a Uniden 996t owner. The problem I have is not receiving any 800mhz traffic on the new Casper PSCC system.

I have the new freqs loaded from WyoWabbit's post above. However, I get a very weak signal on the 860.2125 control channel but no P25 data (voice or control). I have tried base & mobile configs with my 996t but no luck in receiving any new 800mhz traffic. Did they relocate the 800mhz repeaters from Casper Mtn.? I do get some Casper Talk Group chatter on the vhf WyoLink Casper Mtn site (Casper Fire) but no other Casper traffic. Is the 800mhz system even used any more? Thanks folks!

Ok, I deleted the old site & created a new site & am now receiving TG traffic. However, I am interested in the system configuration. My oldest daughter is a dispatcher for the PD so I like to listen to her :) These systems have changed a lot since I started way back in '77.

Hello,

The new system uses the same antennas and tower site as the old system. They are still located on Casper mountain.

The old system was not compatable with WyoLink, so it was upgraded to true APCO25 9600 baud. Because of this, they had to assign all new TGs so they would be compatable with WyoLink.

The new system has been on the air in a minimal capacity for several months with just chief officers doing testing. As of Wednesday last week, they made the transition for all users. With what I have gotten from research and what Wyowabbit submitted, the system is fairly well mapped out for scanner folks. I have gotten some good info off of a subscriber radio and I will submit it to RR in a few days.

Initial reports from the field are that there are a few bubbles and some range issues. I really don't know why there would be range issues due to the same antennas and such, but there seem to be. The benefit now is that users can switch to Wyolink and still get their message across from anywhere (almost). I am noticing much better audio on both my 996xt and the 197. I am fairly impressed.

Any more questions, just ask.

For JLM7424 or anyone using a 396XT on the Wyolink system... Is there anything unusual needed when programming the 396XT for Wyolink (freq offsets, etc)? I am in Colorado and very familiar with the CO DTRS network, and the Wyolink looks similar other than being mostly on VHF. I will be driving to Yellowstone in a couple of weeks and I want to get the scanner ready in advance. Incidently, I use FreeSCAN and I download most of my data from RR.

Why did Casper build a new 800 MHZ radio system when they were already using P25 VHF on Wyolink? is this part of Wyolink with just a different frequency band being useD?

Casper has been using a stand alone 800mhz system for years. Well before WyoLink started being used. It first started out as an analog trunked system, then a smartnet, and now a smartzone just as WyoLink is.

When the switch happened a few years ago, the 800 system was tied into WyoLink just as the ones in Gillette and Cheyenne are.
