Without an external antenna, it's going to be tough... You could try RadioShacks telescopic scanner antenna, extended to it's full length. That would be better than the duckie that comes with the scanner..

Long story short, CB is going to require a fairly large antenna if you want any type of good recpetion at all. Granted, a paperclip stuck into the BNC will recieve CB, but you'll have to be right next to the transmitter.

Rule of thumb for CB - Big antenna = Big signal...

Actually, yes... Carefully stick the wire into the center of the BNC on top of the scanner, or if you want to do it professionally, solder a BNC onto the wire and plug it in like your antenna.

If you want a little boost in performance, get two 8' peices of wire, one to the center of the BNC, one wrapped around the "ground" part, and seperate the two...

Of course. Anytime you can get an antenna outdoors, you're going to gain a whole lot more signal...

Try your telescopic antenna you mention in your signature, exteneded to it's full length and see how it fairs. At it's full length, it should be resonant for VHF Lo, which isn't too far from the CB band.. Should work decent...

Set the squelch so the static frying sound just stops. Set it just barely above that. The higher you set the squelch, the stronger a signal is going to have to be to "break" it and come through the speaker.
