Can someone refresh my memory, isn't one of the cities in the SLO or Santa Barbara County area running encryption full time on their PD? I thought it was Morro Bay, but search didn't tell me. I am near Morro Bay today, and have had no hits on their main channel, even using carrier sql, (PSR-600).

The db shows Morro Bay as analog. Santa Maria PD is encrypted but shows a side note that they are also transmitting in analog. <shrug>

Enc

Morro Bay is Analog and in the clear, however SLO PD has an encrypted channel in addition to their dispatch now.

Santa Maria is P25 and coded, SLO PD has an encrypted tac. Simi Valley has some encryption. Otherwise, the encrypted stuff is surveillance and mostly simplex, or federal.

Has anyone monitored the SLOPD Tac channel? From what I know, they do not use it at all.

Only thing I know in the area is like was mentioned, Santa Maria PD is encrypted but I believe is simulcast on a UHF analog channel, anyone confirm this?

As mentioned as well, Morro Bay is most definitely not encrypted LOL.... low power repeater and hardly any traffic... quiet town.

So I am in Santa Maria got a Uniden 396T. I finally got this thing programmed through a premium subscription to Radio Reference and I guess now I find out I can't listen to the PD... wow..SMPD scanner 460.1000 says ENC now with some garble every time. This whole analog thing. What does that mean? " SMPD Dispatch 460.100 noted transmitting also analog PL 82.5". The PL 82.5? Is that something I can program into this scanner to listen to it? sorry newbie here.

I live within monitoring range of Santa Maria PD and have not heard analog in years, nor have I heard non-encrypted P25. Unless I hear otherwise by someone who has recently monitored them, I'm going to remove the references to analog from the database.

I've also yet to hear Allan Hancock College Police on 460.525. I can hear their security and maintenance channels, but not PD. Anyone know what's up?

I know this is an old thread (I was inactive in 2011), but SLOPD's analog tac channel is used occasionally, most recently noted to be the student noise patrol. Listen on Thurs-Sat nights. And yes, MBPD's repeater is fairly low level. I believe it's on Black Hill, at the golf course. At least that's where it used to be.

Hancock PD repeater is (still) 461.925 D205. The Peace Officers carry XTS5000s and work on both the SMPD and AHC frequencies. I am not sure what the non-sworns are doing these days, Ill ask.

The 461.925 repeater wasn't carrying any LE traffic when I've listened recently. Just non-sworn stuff. I'm guessing the cops are either on Santa Maria PD, or the 460.525 repeater is just very low level and low power. And I give more weight to my first guess than my second.

They're not an agency I've monitored in the past, so I don't have any real working knowledge of the department. Just trying to make some database updates for completeness.

Figured if it was gravedug once, twice ought to be better :)

I lived in the area for a number of years. I have *never* heard SM PD on analog. I suppose I could have monitored Dispatch for awhile but --- it's always ENC showing up on my display, so there was no point in programming it. Once in awhile I would get a Close Call capture, and yup it's ENC.

SLO PD Tac: Sometime in 2010 I think, the PD had a problem on Blue (SLO PD Disp, if I'm remembering correctly) so they had everyone switch over to Green. This went on for a couple of weeks. Otherwise, I've always had Disp and Tac on my Hot-Freqs* but never heard anything on Tac. I think it's primarily used as a secondary channel in case Dispatch fails, which won't happen very often because SLO is a pretty small town. The only time it would get close to requiring Tac is if there was yet another college group of miscreants partying or something like that bank robber who ran around there back in ... I think '09. (Was fun to hear it all)

Morro Bay PD: They've got a fairly small TX area. Because they're trapped by the small mountain range that the 41 goes through, you won't catch them from Atascadero. Because it's too far north of SLO, you won't catch them that way via LOVR and Los Osos if you're in SLO. I've heard them before, but they also a pretty small dept (small town, tough to find a job there) so there won't be too much action. The action will be in SLO or just the SO. (Speaking of the SO, the Animal Control dept could benefit from an instruction session on how to use a radio properly.)

When I compiled the massive PD library for my scanner back in...I think '08, Orange County, SM PD and Santa Monica were the only encrypted departments/counties I noted. I may seem to recall something in Fresno or the Bay Area, but those three were the only ones that stood out. Things may have changed considerably since then.

*: For whenever I hear a cruiser fly by code 3, but didn't catch it on the scanner, I'd turn off all other systems via the quick keys and switch right to quick key #1, which was Priority System.
