Hello Everyone,

Recently when Charlottesville/Albemarle reconfigured their 800 system, they changed the talkgroups all around. On the dispatches, they mention 'Bravo (B)' talkgroups. I also found out that they are using 'Alpha (A)' talkgroups and 'Charlie (C)' talkgroups. The Bravo talkgroups are listed in the Radioreference database as FRTAC 3-12. However, I do not see any talkgroups listed for the 'Alpha (A)' side of things. Is that because they are not known yet? I am going to try to put in a wildcard in my scanner to see if I can catch talkgroup ID numbers for these 'A' talkgroups. Anybody know anything?

Also, for my previous reply post to "Mystery Frequencies" the 460.250 and 460.475 I believe were the old Albemarle Sheriff frequencies. I could be wrong.

Likely A, B & C are 8 hour shifts. Our A shift overlap at 2300 through 0100, B @ 0700 through 0900 and C @ 1500 through 1700. Of course A Alpha etc wouldn't be in database if above is the case.

Edit:Actually A is the daytime shift, B is evening and C is graveyard.

New Talkgroup?

Hello Everyone

This afternoon and evening I have been picking up talkgroup: 1360. On my PSR-500 it comes across as saying VC or Voice Channel I think. I'm hearing Engine 7 and Fire Dispatch mark-up on it. It might be ATac 4. I have been trying to figure out what the A Tac channels are and what they're talkgroup ID's are.

Update for Charlottesville/Albe 800 System

Hello Everyone,

The database is going to need to be updated because apparently the radio system is actively using Zone 'A' now. They have been using Zone 'B', which is currently in the Radioreference database as is Zone 'C'. This is according to my ex-fire chief. I'm trying to figure out what talk groups are in Zone 'A'. You'll hear dispatch saying that all units should go to Alpha Tac 4 or something. Those talk groups are not listed in the Radioreference database. Fire Dispatch and Rescue Dispatch are still using their FRDISP and FRRESP channels respectively but the Tac channels that they used to use for Bravo Tac 3 or Bravo Tac 4 are no longer actively being used. It is now Alpha Tac 3, Tac 4, etc. I'm trying to figure out what all is now being used and what the talk groups IDs are now. Here is a pdf that shows one of the updates. http://www.albemarle.org/upload/ima...Forms/training/TrainingBulletins/20100819.pdf

The way I read the bulletin, it sounds like the TG's are the same--just renamed.

It sounds like the county is rebanding, and is taking that as an opportunity to update TG's as well.

Well, it seems like you guys are correct. At last night's Albemarle Amateur Radio Club meeting we had as our guest one of the radio system administrators. He said that 6 or 7 channels have changed due to rebanding, and he sent apologies to RadioReference.com users and he promised to update the county's website with the new info but had been very busy recently.

He also spoke of a grant application that would provide for a number of "gateway repeaters" on VHF/UHF/800 inter-op channels along I-64 and US 29 that surrounding agencies could all access and get to the local ECC. The current 800 radios all are programmed with the national 800 inter-agency freqs.

Stay tuned!

Updates to Charlottesville/Albemarle 800 System

Alright, changes have happened to the Albemarle/Charlottesville 800 system. As those of us that monitor the Charlottesville 800 system may have noticed, Tac 3 has been pretty quiet lately as have the rest of the channels. This is because the Albemarle and Charlotttesville recently completely the rebanding of their radios. Now all fireground traffic is being held on what are known as the Alpha tac channels and not the Bravo tac channels which is what tac 3 is on.

You will notice in the database (thanks Dave!), that changes have been made and updated showing 'A Tac 4' and 'A Tac 5'. Units are now operating on the 'Alpha' channels primarily. These 'Alpha' channels are analog and are not digital. However, if a unit complains to the ECC that they are having trouble with radio communications, 'Bravo' Tac xxxx has already been held for them as as back-up. 'Bravo' tac channels are digital. Also, in the database, it shows Charlottesville Fire tac channels, they got rid of these. They are no longer used and not even in the radio.

Also, with the re-banding, came more Event channels for interoperability. Even though the talk-group numbers have not been publicly listed, I am finding out what they are by way of wildcards in my scanner and I will update the database as I find out what each new tac channel is. I hope this clarifies any questions you may have. If you have any questions, feel free to message me and I will try to answer them as best I can. Take it easy and happy scanning!
