Home Patrol and Cherry Hill

Am asking about Cropwell because I had major problems receiving cherry hill police where I live near the firehouse with a uniden 796 and other people had the same problems and I wondered if the reception with the home patrol was better in this area, or not.

I don't think it's your radio.

The system is designed not to migrate outside of the township. I frequently monitor while going to different areas in the township (396T), and reception varies.

I live in Voorhees and when crossing Evesham Rd while on Kresson, the reception drops like a rock. Reception is very scratchy at home.

Ironically, while sitting inside an atrium in Franklin Mills Mall, I punched in C.H. and it came in with 4 or 5 bars. Go figure.

But we do live in cherry hill, right across from the firehouse, near cropwell and rabbit run, we arent on the edge of cherry hill, in fact the CH police are using the old ambuland building across and up the street as a place to park.. I guess though the other posting make me wonder if camden county does make a change the way its described I assume that CH will do the same and make CH impossible to receive.

Your receiver doesn't have the sensitivity that the police/fire boys' radios do. You may just be unfortunate to be located in a low signal zone.

Not to worry about CH being impossible to receive. They already have that capability to do that, but it probably is used infrequently/never.

Check the RR database: Cherry Hill, EDACS Standard, System Voice: ProVoice (unmonitorable) and Analog.

But if they go to the following which is right above on the RR forum:

Maybe is the best answer right now. they may go with a TDMA format system which no current scanner decodes

Then I assume home patrol would be useless, right ?

There may be a nearby cellphone tower at Evesham and Kresson or some other 800 Mhz freq causing interference with the system. Happens to me all the time. I can get the system all along 73 in Marlton and Mt. Laurel pretty good.

I wonder if their would be any incentive for them to abandon their relatively new radio equipment. Since I've lived in the area, CH has gone through at least 2 upgrades to their radio system that I'm aware of.

Would they be allotted the same number to talk groups as they now enjoy? I imagine they would have to give up their cryptic police codes and adopt the CC codes.

I'm almost 100% sure that when the county rolls-out the new 700 MHz P25 system that Camden & Cherry Hill are going to stick with their EDACS systems...
