Is there anything left on the Federal analog systems in Chicago? After looking at the federal wiki for Chicago, I see some analog stuff left and I see the newer 25 cities P25 system listed. It's been a long time since I've actually given it a listen. Thanks for any information.

The best why of getting an answer is to plug in the freqs and see what you come up with.

That way you can share with us and update the DB :)

I may just do that! It could prove interesting and useful at the same time so that unused freqs can be checked off of the DB, etc. Think I'll start with the VHF systems, move on to the UHF systems. In the meantime, any assistance anyone can give would be helpful.

Still, I'd love to have the info up-to-date for when i do finally come by again!

You may want to start with the feebs. I think they may have just started the transition to P25. Last week was the first time I heard P25 NAC167 encrypted on 170.7250. From the nature (frequency between and repetitive lengths) of the transmissions, it seems to me they are performing BER tests on a single site or possibly a simulcast system.

I don't have anyway to monitor digital and that is why I was wondering if there was any analog traffic being used still. Can you help me understand what BER testing is?

Most Chicago Metro federal agencies have switched to P25. FBI and DEA are the last two major agencies that still use analog.

BER = Bit Error Rate. Technicians use electronic equipment that receive P25 transmissions while mobile. The electronic equipment records the BER for given geographical locations so coverage can be snalyzed.
