Should be a pretty good day for scanning in the Sacramento area. I already hear the Park Rangers gearing up for the Cinco de Mayo celebration on their dispatch channel (TGID 49232). In fact, if I heard right, there's already a group of rafters going down the river.

And in Elk Grove the Western Festival will be going through the rest of the weekend. It's always the first weekend in May but being coupled with Cinco de Mayo this year may give it some added excitement. I believe that one's being handled primarily on their Tac 1 (TGID 52656) but probably will also be on their Channel 1 (TGID 52432).

And I'm sure SacPD will have their hands full. I'd imagine Old Sac and the clubs downtown will be hopping. Of course all the agencies should be busy, but these are looking to be the hot spots.

Any other events we should listen for? Anyone hear anything yet?

Correction...

I guess the Rangers are working a race, seems to be going along (at least for part of the route) the American River.

Last night I was hearing traffic for the Western Festival on Elk Grove Tac Channel 1 (52656), and when they needed to run a check on someone they used Elk Grove Channel 2 (52464).
The Western Festival should be interesting to listen to; they had a fight last night and a a few problem crowds. But the officers did a good job dispersing everybody from the sounds of it..

Right now the Western Festival Parade is going on, they are using Elk Grove Traffic Channel (52624).

I have a radio running in search mode today so I hope to be able to pickup traffic no matter what TG they are on. Getting traffic from Sac City Park Safety about an event on 14th Ave between Franklin and S. Land Park. Sounds like they closed 14th Ave for the event. Also getting lots of traffic from several agencies saying traffic on the freeways is very heavy. I guess I will need to go out on a news cruse tonight.

Driver and passenger in custody off Civic Dr in Galt top speed called during the pursuit was 110MPH on SB 99 just north of Galt. They are calling for medical for the passenger sounds like he hit his head on something during the pursuit.

That race along the river was a half-marathon.

Tomorrow will be the Cinco De Mayo event at Discovery Park. Supposed to be 10900 people in attendance. We've had problems in the past. I will not be there.

There were numerous pursuits today. The EGPD one, CHP and RCPD had one that ended near Mather airfield...subject started ramming squads. City had one on channel 4 around 1030pm. Don't even know how many others there were.

This ended up being a very busy weekend. Between Saturday morning and now I personally responded to 5 fatal crashes, a marijuana infested home, a drowning and a bunch of heat/drinking related incidents.

Yeah, I gotta' say I'm disappointed. We have 2 rafting days, and already 1 drowning. It's going to be a long summer.

I spoke with two witnesses of the drowning and they both said over and over that the guy should have had a life jacket on. I got shots of another group of rafters floating by as boat 65 was putting the guy into the boat under CPR and you could tell that they were shocked at what they were seeing but they also had no life jackets on.
