Anyone monitoring SP 4 on SRRCS? Citizen with radio saying he just got robbed at gun point and is now refusing to tell PD his location because he is afraid he will get in trouble for talking on the police radio. Said he bought the radio off E-Bay and had the person program it before they shipped it to him.

The citizen flagged down Sac PD, now they are looking for the "bad guys". They took the vics wallet and cell phone, good thing they didn't get the radio.

Something tells me PD might just take it though. I'd deal with his call, and then deal with the radio afterwards. He wouldn't like that part.

Didn't hear the call, though. Is this still going on?

Hey Scannerboy,

I was listening out of the corner of my ear and heard the initial traffic. Thought it was an officer in foot pursuit. licked one of my scanners on the channel ad followed the action. had others listening in too. sounded like a 211 to the high school kid with the radio. Two bma's in a dodge van took the kid's wallet and cell phone. the suspects were taken into custody in the parking lot of Burbank High. Any Ideas on what was up with the kid and the radio. Dispatch said that they could not get a radio ID. What Would the kid be doing with the radio in the first place.

mostly wrap up on the call. most units are code 4
Wanted to post before reading all. It's amazing the things yu can find on Ebay. Good thing the good guys got the radio. The kid did the right thing in hailing the officer. He'll have to own up to hie deeds, but looks like a good collar. Star helped out too.

LE Radio

I heard the transmission and someone (dispatch or an officer) telling him to disclose his location in order to help him. It was not too long then silence.

First time I heard a rogue two-way radio in our area used in such a fashion.

My first thought was an officer down and their radio was taken. Since it was not identifiable in our system, I can see why that there was no personnel welfare checks taken.

Yea the call is code 4 now. I am at work at KCRA tonight on the desk and I also thought it was a foot pursuit at first so I locked on it also. I was going to send a reporter but decided it may just get the kid in more trouble so I am not sending anyone. I think if he would have just told them his location they probably would have just taken the radio and let it go but now I'm pretty sure they may do more to him. Did you (scanman6) record any of the traffic? I would love to get a copy of it if you did just for myself, it was pretty interesting to hear.

Hey Scannerboy,

I record Everything and did get all the Traffic. I had just started a new file for the next day. I've got to hit the sack, but what did you have in mind?

I'll parse if out and see if I can get it to you. I was pretty surprised myself and was going to edit it for the scarpbook. Will see what I can do tomorrow AM and let you know. .

Good Night all and Happy Hunting Scannerboy.

It's actually easier than you would think to get a radio and then gain access to the Sacramento TRS. It's quite scary. I'm wondering if this kid bought the radio, then self-programmed it to RX/TX on the system. Another posibility is that it was a yet to be discovered lost/stolen radio the kid was carrying around. Usually there is much more than face value. If the kid is carrying around a radio that can xmit, I'm not going to automatically believe his ebay story. Credibility is a bit suspect.

Hmmmm. This incident could open up several cans of worms.

Anybody know if it were a full digital system, would it be more difficult to buy a radio and program to gain access to the system control?

I'd like to hear it as well. Too bad I missed it live...
Glad they got that radio off the street!

Kid Radio Audio

Hi All,

Just PM me with an email address and i'll send it to you. It's small enought that it will go as an attachment. He sounded like he had some knowledge of PD protocol and/or had been listening to the traffic for some time. I'm glad the radio is in safe hands too. I aggree that we don't want to contribute to making things worse for the kid. (it sounds like he's in his early to mid teens), but I'll share with the forum if you send me an address to send the file to.

I'm trying something new

Hi ll, Thanks for the quick responses. I really want to share this clip with you, It turns out that the file is way too big to send through the email. It's 17 mets and lasts 15 minutes. I'll keep your email private and send you a link to it when I throw it up on Youtube or Myspace

Mostl likely Youtube sorry for the false alarm. If I get this thing worked out, maybe it will be a useful tool for this kind of thing.

Thank you for the post.

However, after listening to this kid, I wouldn't say he had good radio manners. He could have handled himself a whole lot better.

Do you know what kind of trouble he got into because of transmitting on the police band?

Hopefully a lot... I also hope they try to pursue the person he claimed he bought it from on EBay.

Glad you enjoyed the audio

Thanks for the support Y'all. I'll probably leave it up for a couple more days, but as it gets stale, I'll pull the clips. I'll arc them so theypll still be around someplace. I'd have edited them a bit if I'd had the time. The Youtube things went pretty well, so I'll be using that in the future along with looking for better means. Well Gotta go now. Thanks again for the support.
