This attempt to switch was talked about back in early 2000's but some of the twp fire balked at the idea and costs involved with radios.Thousands for radios, most have their own channels, with many having PD and SO dispatching. Guess Enon, Pike and German home dispatching would go away
I suppose they could keep the VHF dispatch channels with mobile units only and a few key operators would have portables.Maybe Champaign Cty could pick up Harmony to keep them on HiBand?
And with the FCC mandating a switch to dig it seems as though imminent that we will lose the ablilty to have old style monitoring. Clark County at this point can't afford a switch but I do know the old VHF radio system is worn out. The Emerg buttons on portables are tied to other deputy names, lots of difficulty hearing far out on the fringe and interference issues.
I just cant understand how Columbus, Dayton and other including OSP use a system that you can monitor, but little old Springfield had to initiate such a system. And now for Clark County to feel the need to piggyback on top. As monitorists we are doomed with Edacs.
Those in power, can anything be done to stop this in its tracks before it goes any further?
