- NO tape measures - we had a SK who built a yagi with several elements (maybe 10" total length) for fox hunting - we thought it would a be a fun club build at our meetings. It was connected directly to the connection on his HT and it worked pretty darned well. Does anyone have a pattern/photo that we could go by? It would be nice to have some general dimension to get started.

I know this is an old thread but still could be useful. You can substitute 5/16" aluminum tubing for the tape measure. Use the same dimensions...element spacing, hairpin match size...from the well established TMB. I built a 220 version using PVC pipe for the boom and thru drilled for the elements. I just needed a quick trim of the driven elements to bring resonance up to the lower portion of 220, where most repeater inputs are. Works fine and is very solid.
I made a non conductive yagi for 800 using 18 AWG copper wire that worked quite well. Built in under an hour.
Some of the yagi calculators online will show you the spacing and element lengths after you fill in the blanks. Freq, elements, boom thickness etc..

You can use the same spacing and element lengths with 5/16" aluminum tubing as are used with the basic tape measure elements. I used a slightly larger diameter PVC pipe of one solid piece, as the 4 ways and Tees aren't needed with tubing elements. Details are here...Joe Leggio WB2HOL Tape Measure Antenna – XWARN
