Do they use the few conventional channels as listed or is this an outdated system? They have mcs 2000's in their cruisers. I know the channel number as "75" as listed is incorrect.

They use VHF Railway Band to Communicate with Trains and MOW, but Dispatching is done one Telus Mike for Both CN & CP. I have heard them on 142.7700mhz in Ontario Thought as well.

I've corrected it in the database. The actual channel number is 35 and the frequency is 161.235Mhz.

Actually, CN Special Constables don't use the MiKE system, they use Bell's "10-4" service.

But, Mike is correct in saying they hang out on 161.235, I've heard them on here a few times.

Yes 35 sounds right, just didn't know what the frequency was. Apparently that channel is repeatered to Montreal and that is who they are talking to when they key up in the GTA. Motorola MCS 2000's in cars.

Kingston derailment

Spent a day in Kingston at the train derailment, and I got these logged on close call. Because I had to work, I couldn't monitor these frequencies.... but this is what was logged.

Even better, I can't find ANY of these frequencies on the TAFL.

140.1625
149.8500
149.8750
150.0625
414.5250
414.5375 DPL165
414.5500 DPL165
420.1250
420.1375
425.5125 PL123.0

Well, the 149.8500/149.8750, 414.5250/414.5375/414.5500 and 420.1250/420.1375 are probably the same thing, but Close Call picked up on it differently.

425.5125 with PL 123.0 is an RCMP channel.

140.1625 is probably 140.1600 which is a very popular Bell Mobility paging frequency.
149.8600 is listed as a Police Common channel (but I've never seen it used).
414.5375 is listed as an MTO Link frequency.
425.5125 RCMP "L1/T1".

It is also Ch 35, but Ch 35 is used at the Montreal hump yard.

Depends what you mean by channel. Are we talking about the AAR/RAC channel number, or the CN channel number? They aren't the same thing.

AAR/RAC channel 35 is 160.635
AAR/RAC channel 75 is 161.235

So. The poster who said CN Police hang out on Channel 75 was not incorrect. He was just refering to AAR/RAC channel 75.

Channel 35 is a simplex channel and channel 90 is a duplex or repeatered channel with 161.235 being the input and 160.575 being the output.

I show channel 35 as being police in Toronto as well as the Montreal Hump.

Channel 90 shows as police in Halifax, Moncton, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

BTW, all this information comes from the Canadian Trackside Guide. If anybody is into railfanning at all, this is the bible.

The display on the MCS2000's in their cars reads "CN 35." This is the channel that is apparently repeatered to Montreal,as per an officer.

It's repeatered in the sense that Montreal can talk with the officers through remote bases spread out through the province.

However, it's not a repeater. Montreal and the officers both use 161.235Mhz which is CN35.

Both CN and CP have official channel numbers which do not have any relationship to the AAR channel numbers.

CP51 (159.8850Mhz) used to be the Investigations channel for CP Police. It was also remoted back to either Calgary or Montreal.

Mike: Thats where I get all my info from. You are right, it's a good bible.

All i have in for CN is the stuff listed under CN Rail of course. Will i hear pretty much everything or should I be putting in more?

Also that RCMP freq listed above is it very active or no?
