Will cold weather hurt the pro 97 if left in a vehicle over night ? in single digits or the teens.

Unless there is a good reason to leave your radio in a vehicle overnight I'd recommend taking it inside.... the operating temp range doesn't tell the whole story.... my scanners stay with me the whole shift, sometimes in the car sometimes around my neck or in my vest pocket... below about 20 degrees F the display starts to slow down considerably.

I don't think this is a black & white issue. While the spec tells you the operating range, I feel that is the extreme range and not something you want to do if you can help it. Some battery types will freeze before reaching the lowest published operating temperature of the scanner. Also, I do not feel it is good for the LCD display to be that cold. It would be one thing if you are using/holding the scanner; but no reason to "store" it at those temps.

i can speak from experience that rechargable batteries do not handle cold weather well, in case you're using those...

Well, I can say I removed mine from my vehicle after gmclam's & jakegday post. Never gave it a thought. Thanks.
