Hi All:

I am programming my 996T with the Butel software, and I notice there is a control channel only mode. I don't think I had this feature on my 246T, I used to program in all the frequencies in the trunked system. Is there any benefit or downside to using the control channel only mode?

The only downside is that you won't get meaningful information out of the "System Activity Indicators" if you program only the control channels.

The 246 also has CC Only mode.

The advantage is that you only need the control channel frequencies and the alternates in order for the TrunkTracker to follow the talkgroups.

As UPMan pointed out, the control channel only method is available in the 246 for analog Motorola systems also. It's in the systems settings:
Program System ->E, Select the system ->E, Edit system options ->E, Set C-C Only ->E.

Thanks for the reply. I should probably know this but, where are the system activity indicators? Another thing I should already know is: is there a way to have the talk group ID show up in the display? Right now, I have the channel description showing in the second line of the display, with the freq below it. I used the database import feature here on RR, with the Butel software. Do I need to manually enter the TGID number after the description?

On the 996, you can turn on the indicators by holding on the control channel, then pressing FUNC + ./No. To toggle TGID display, you want Display Mode 2. HOLD on any channel in the system, then press FUNC + 0.
