Maybe you guys can help me undstand the control aspects of frequencies. In RR data base for the central msp it gives a list of frequencies some are in red, blue and black. It says that Red* are Primary Control Channels, Blue* are alternate control channels and nothing for the channels in black. Do I need to use all these freqs or do I use just the ones in red or blue? What about the ones in black???

There are no CTCSS/DCS numbers listed, does that mean none are needed.?

Thanks so much for your help. I'm new to this and racking my brains putting it all together.

Thanks again!

If you were programming a Motorola trunked radio you would only use the 4 channels listed. Motorola only uses 4 channels for the data channels. The radios determine what frequencies (rest of the list) to tune to from the data that's spit out from one of those 4 frequencies that is active as the data channel at any given time.

It is possible to only program those 4 frequencies in a scanner and it will work as long as it's operating in a control channel only mode as most do now day. However, it's a good idea to put all of them in just to be sure that you have everything available in the event the system changes and a different one from the list become the active control channel.

Mancow,
Thanks for the reply. I have a 996t and trying to get it all set up. What about the CTCSS/DCS? None are listed, does that mean none are needed for id tags? When there is conversation on those freq's mentioned, only the freq numbers show nothing else.

Thanks for your help.
