Noob question. How do I tell the difference of a conventional frequency and a trunked frequencies when looking at my county in RadioReference? Jasper county Missouri. I’m sure an easy question but I can’t find a clear answer. I have found MOSWIN, NXDN, and p25 but can’t distinguish the conventional. Thanks if you can make this clear.

If you're looking at the county page and you see a single frequency listed with a mode of P25, NXDN, or DMR...then it's conventional. All trunked systems are listed on their own pages, which are all listed at the very bottom of a county page.

So in the picture the frequency 155.0550 is a conventional frequency and the others aren’t? I would have thought it would have been the other way around.

According to the database, Jasper Co Sheriff uses the Joplin P25 system on talk group 512. That would require you to program the Joplin P25 trunked system in your radio.
These are the frequencies that you would program in to a P25 Standard trunk system to listen to Joplin P25.

This is the talk group that you need for Jasper Co on that system.

It is also showing that Jasper Co is using a VHF-HI channel channel of 154.235 that is not trunked. It doesn't appear that there are not any P25 conventional frequencies in use.

What GTR8000 is referring to is the "Mode" column shown here. It is listed a FMN, which is a non-trunked narrowband conventional frequency. It would have to be programed in a different system then the Joplin P25 trunked system.

So in the pic the frequency 155.0550 Mode NXDN is the only one that is not conventional or have I still not have my head wrapped around this right?

Digital and analog modes can be trunked or conventional. I assume you are referring to 151.055 NXDN. And yes, is appears that it is a NXDN conventional frequency, as it is listed here. NXDN is a separate mode altogether. It requires a separate upgrade if you are using a Uniden radio.

I guess I didn't answer your question completely. All of the frequencies that are shown in your pic are conventional. But not the the systems that you click on that takes you to another page.

Ok have do I have it right that all the frequencies in the pic I just posted are conventional and the trunked ones would be in the bottom of the pic if I was to open them? Sorry for the dumb confusing questions.

Thank you very much for clearing that up. I guess my thinking was if it was NXDN, DMR, p25 etc. that they were non conventional. I didn’t know that they can be both.

To my knowledge, all frequencies can be used in trunked or conventional mode. Doesn't matter what the format is, analog or the various digital modes.
Thanks again you don’t know how much that straightened my thinking up. It really had me confused. Funny how you can get something in your head and gets you mess up and learning to program this 436 has me mess up anyway.😂

It's kinda like TV antennas when they switched to the digital format for over-the-air channels. People thought they needed a new antenna to pick up the "digital" channels. The antenna doesn't care if its analog or digital, its just a frequency.

I'm glad you have a better understanding now.

Thank you to sir, I understand what you were trying to tell me how.

I don't have any HP model radios (436, 536, SDS100/200), but having the correct service types can be a stumbling block for users. There are many people here chatting about that very subject. Just be aware of your service types while doing your programming.

Isn’t it better to just turn them all on?

If you are using the database to monitor your area using the "zip code" mode, your radio may monitor things that you don't wish to hear. When programming things in a favorites list, you have to be sure that the service types of the entities you want to monitor are enabled. Pay attention to "Law Dispatch", "Law Tac", etc.
