Looking for a little info on the BCT15X.

I noticed from the specs that it has a tape recording/switch output. Would anyone happen to know if the "switch" activates anytime the squelch is open or does it require audio?

Basically I'm looking to create a carrier operated squelch (COS) to activate other hardware when a signal is present. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks -

I'm not to technical when it comes to repeater operation but i have used my line out on the 15x to control the vox on my recorders and other software.

Hope this help. Also make sure you select line out when programming the 15x via software.

The freq you are trying to relay does it use a PL tone. Also make sure you set your squelch to about 3-4 to be on the safe side. You only going to monitor 1 freq like this or multiple?

None of the newer Uniden scanners has a COR switched output.

What they provide is a wonderful fixed-level line output that can be programmed to gate audio out of (or not) on a per-channel basis. So you program those channels (talkgroups) that you want to be heard on the line out to do so and it is intended to trigger a vox recorder of your choosing.

I use that line output to good effect on my scanner feeds. This eliminates the guess work of whether the volume level is set correctly, sounds much cleaner than the speaker output for this purpose, and it leaves the local speaker for me to hear when I'm in the room. It's genius.

I know this is an old thread but if you're for COS output you can wire it up on a BCT15x.

With the unit opened up, the back of the scanner closest to you looking at the bottom side of the circuit board, about an inch in from the rear there's a 14 or 16 pin microprocessor. The 4th pin in on the left goes +3.3 volts when it detects a carrier. Poke around with your meter to confirm since I'm doing this by memory. I've used that in conjunction with an NPN transistor and 5 volt relay to give me a solid ptt output wired up to a mono 1/8" jack on the back of the scanner.

In my case I've used this to direct wire the scanner to a nextel i570 to rebroadcast the scanner audio using direct talk (off network walkie-talkie mode). You can easily wire it up to a low-power HT as well. Just make sure you are not rebroadcasting any public safety traffic as to comply with fcc rules. This is where the channel by channel record output comes in handy. I prefer using the nextels because they're digital, they hop frequencies a few times per second & won't interfere with others or be interfered with.

Cheers.
