I got my AUGUST issue today.
I anticipate them to stop printing the CQ and go digital. I in the past few months have got notices from two monthly magazines, they will go digital no more printing copies.
Things are going down hill.

I got the August issue this weekend. Truth be told...I kinda forgot about the magazine altogether.

The gap is slowly closing! C'mon ol' Bessie, you can do it!

I'm hearing reports that Gail Sheehan K2RED has left CQ Magazine. She was Managing Editor. I do not know why she left the magazine.

You boys need to stop kicking an empty soup can down the street like a bunch of school kids.

With W2NSD leaving the magazine a number of years back, the slow death of CQ was cast into history. It was a sad day in the history of ham radio when Wayne Green passed away.

Those that have been working for CQ magazine have not kept up the fine reputation the magazine once held. They have not even stayed up with the on time delivery of the publication. They have lost face in delivering the paid subscriptions due their subscribers. What more do you expect from those that can't even step up to the plate and let those paid subscribers know what is going on.

It's long past the ability to save face with what the magazine has been doing. I stopped my subscription many years back due to the problems that were showing up some 10 years or more ago. Winter is upon us and the grass has stopped growing. So has CQ magazine. Put the lawn mower away and let the snow cover up the old grass on the ground.

I haven't sent them any money since last year. When my subscription runs out, which they keep extending, I doubt if I will send them any more money for a print subscription. I do think that those who paid for print subscriptions deserve to get what they paid for.

Wayne Green left CQ in 1960. That's ancient history.

...the slow death of CQ was cast into history.
Yeah, that's a glacially slow death. CQ managed to keep the lights on for over 50 years after Wayne left the building.

It was a sad day in the history of ham radio when Wayne Green passed away.
While 73 Magazine did have some interesting technical articles and would publish things that QST and CQ would not, Wayne's editorials always seemed to column-inch after column-inch of rambling jabs at the ARRL. Not that the ARRL doesn't deserve some jabs from time to time, but Wayne couldn't seem to make a point and move on.

They have not even stayed up with the on time delivery of the publication. They have lost face in delivering the paid subscriptions due their subscribers. What more do you expect from those that can't even step up to the plate and let those paid subscribers know what is going on.
I agree. CQ's failure to be up-front with their subscribers has been very frustrating. I do have to wonder what they are telling their advertisers.

I hope CQ plans to refund many of those folks that placed ads. Many of the events are well past...

Some one recently mentioned the days of Wayne Green, the above comment reminds me of any old trick Wayne used to use. He sometimes placed ads that the advertisers did NOT order, apparently he wanted readers to believe there were more advertisers than there actually were and besides, maybe the advertiser's billing department would actually pay up!

Of course I have no way to knowing what the present situation is (was?).

I ordered the digital version thru the Zinio iPad app. CQ and Zinio want $27/yr thru their websites, but on the iPad app, it's $11/year. I bought a couple of years for that price. And I usually get the magazine the first week of the month or so. I think I got October's on the 7th or 8th which is the latest I've gotten it since the combined issue a few months back. And the added CQ plus content isn't bad, but nothing groundbreaking in it either.

CQ Magazine - Nothing has changed

I have been a subscriber to CQ magazine for nearly 40 years. Lately, the magazine has been showing up very late or, not at all, despite having several years left on my subscription. I have heard that others are having a similar problem with the delivery of the magazine. I recently contacted CQ and was told that they are having problems with their printer.... In my case, I never got the June issue. The July issue showed up the first week of August. The August issue is still MIA despite CQ telling me they should be mailed around Aug 21. In the past, I always received these magazines two or three weeks before the cover date month. They do have a digital version which is "on schedule". On another radio board, it is being reported that CQ is still showing up on newsstands in a timely manner. CQ's sister publication POPULAR COMMUNICATIONS is also affected by this postal delivery problem... I am still waiting for the August issue. The June and July issues arrived well into the months AFTER their cover dates.

Has anyone else been experiencing problems with the delivery of CQ and/or Popular Communications in recent months? I know they are printing them, but wonder if they are having difficulty paying the postage to mail them out? Maybe, they are planning to put everyone on "digital" subscriptions ????

Just curious.

HA !! Here it is over one full YEAR later and nothing has changed. I still get my printed edition 5 to 6 weeks late. They have done nothing to correct the delivery of the printed issues of the magazine. It is my personal belief that CQ wants the membership to get so fed up with the lack of response about the print issues that they will drop the print issue completely in favor of only the digital issue. They have already destroyed Popular Communications magazine so who is to say they won't destroy CQ Amateur Radio print edition as well? I am fed up with their excuses about their "printer problems." I believe the problem is much larger than that and CQ just won't come clean and be honest with the readers about what is really going on.

I have a feeling (with print being dead) CQs printers/distributors keep going under, leaving them to constantly search for new ink. I know that sounds hard to believe, but go visit any street corner newsstand and I guarantee you'll be in awe. Dozens of publications have gone under in the last six months. You're either going to find old issues or not find what you're looking for at all.

The Daily Independent, a newspaper in the Eastern Sierra town of Ridgecrest, lost too many subscribers and too much money and had to sell their operations to their competitor. Only at that point did they offer digital. White River Productions, published Railfan & Railroad Magazine among other railroad magazines but went under just last month. They've always had a digital subscription option but at the same price of the print subscription - that is a BIG no-no. The Wall Street Journal is having the same problem right now. They've bundled their digital subscription with their print and it starts at $40 per month. Digital subscriptions are supposed to be simple PDF downloads and cost a fraction of print service, instead companies like CQ are contracting with companies like Zinio, requiring software to download the latest issue, you cant print or save the latest issue and it costs almost as much as the print edition.

If publishers don't get their ish together soon, the entire field will be gone within a year or two.
