What does it mean when there are several sites/zones for a specific Troop?
For example, Troop L has:
Site 003 Troop L Zone 3
Site 010 Troop L Zone 10
Site 011 Troop L Zone 11
Site 012 Troop L Zone 12

Is a Troop L radio programmed to check all site control channels all the time? (in this case being 4 sites)

I've figured out that Troop L is covered my multiple antenna sites, but that doesn't unravel the mystery for me. When I looked up the FCC license through RR, it shows a map of multiple sites under the same license. What is that all about?

I also created a little google maps mashup of all the sites/tower locations, maybe this will help explain my ramblings. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=103274771780717092357.00043a5a745ba44600e34&ll=41.906365,-72.70752&spn=1.306159,2.570801&z=9&om=1

It means that here in the Litchfield Hills, one site will not cover the entire Troop. Wherever in CT a Trooper from "L" has his/her radio on, that Site or Tower will broadcast Troop L. Troop L will always be heard on the sites within the geographic area of the Troop. Depending upon which scanner you are programming will detirmine whether all the control channels should be in one Bank (785,796 etc), multiple banks or Systems (396, 996)

The radios have every control channel and alternate control channel programmed in them. The radio scans and locks in the strongest channel. When this channel fades or is otherwise interrupted, the radio will scan again. Different zones will allow different talkgroups to be rebroadcast on them. In order to be rebroadcast over a certain Zone, the talkgroup must be permitted to be on that Zone and there must be a radio on that talkgroup within that Zone (called affiliated).

Most Troops have thier own zone (or Prime Site as Motorola calls them). Within that zone, there are several simulcasting remote sites. Troop L uses the following frequencies for Zone 4: CC 859.7625; ACC 858.4875; 857.4875; 856.4875. They transmit from the following remote sites:
Spooner Hill, South Kent
Soapstone Hill, Torrington
North St, Plymouth
Talcott Mtn, Bloomfield
I-84 W @ South St, Middlebury
South Mtn, Bristol
Mohawk Mtn, Cornwall
Chapin Rd, New Milford

Now, this system also uses another type of site and that is an Intellirepeater. It is intended to fill in where a system has poor or no coverage without the expense of a full remote site. Troop L has 3 of these sites. They are listed below
Intellirepeater Site 10 – Lake Waramaug, South Kent CC 859.9375; 855.2125; 857.2375
Intellirepeater Site 12 - South Mtn, Bristol CC 860.4875; ACC 859.4875; 858.2375
Intellirepeater Site 11 - Skiff Mtn, North Kent CC 867.6500; ACC 866.4125; (3rd channel unk)
