Subject: Fatal Crash Involving State Patrol Car and Tractor Trailer Truck.

On February 6, 2008 at approximately 8:30 AM on northbound I-25, mile marker 42 a tractor trailer truck crashed into the rear of a parked State Patrol cruiser.
A trooper was investigating a previous crash at the location when his cruiser was hit.

Two people involved in the previous crash along with the trooper were seated in the patrol car due to adverse weather conditions. One person suffered fatal injuries. The trooper suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to St. Mary Corwin hospital in Pueblo.

The truck driver was transported to Spanish Peaks Medical Center in Walsenburg. The second passenger was also taken to Spanish Peaks and subsequently airlifted to St. Mary Corwin in Pueblo.

A Colorado State Patrol vehicle is pinned underneath a tractor-trailer in an accident that occurred Wednesday morning south of Walsenburg.

An accident this morning left one person dead and a Colorado State Patrol trooper and two others injured after a semitractor-trailer collided into a state patrol car seven miles south of Walsenburg on Interstate 25.

According to the state patrol, Trooper Brad Kennerson responded at 8:30 a.m. to a rollover accident, which was caused by icy roads and blowing snow, off the interstate's southbound lane. Kennerson found two accident victims sitting on the back of their vehicle awaiting a tow truck.

After Kennerson and the two victims had taken shelter in his patrol car, the vehicle was struck from behind by the semitractor-trailer. One of the victims was killed on impact as the semi slid over the top of the patrol car, crushing its roof.

Kennerson and one other person were taken by Flight For Life to St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo. The driver of the truck was taken to a Walsenburg hospital.

The interstate was shut down for several hours following the accident. Patrol Sgt. Brian Lyons said traffic was reopened to all lanes in both directions about 2:00 p.m.

Oh my God, that's horrible! :(

I hope the survivors make it out OK, and that the truck driver gets punished for his horrible driving skills. I can't tell you the number of times I see bad driving on the road every day from Greeley to Denver.

I've been chewed out a couple of times by troopers when I refuse to pull off to the side on an Interstate and instead elect to exit off the freeway. This is exactly why I do so, and they say I'm being a smart-ass.

Oh good. I hope the trooper gets some time off to gather his wits. I know I would need it after something like that.

WALSENBURG – The Colorado State Patrol announced Sunday that the driver troopers say was responsible for a deadly accident Wednesday would be charged.

CSP says 23-year-old German Rosales of Riverside, Calif. slammed into the back of a parked State Patrol cruiser around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 25, just south of Walsenburg.

The trooper, Brad Kennerson, was responding to an accident. Connie Tucker, 56, and Rhonda Traber, 49, both of Trinidad, were in the back of Tpr. Kennerson's car. Tucker was killed.

Traber, Kennerson and Rosales were injured and taken to the hospital. Tpr. Kennerson was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.

Investigators have charged Rosales with one count of careless driving causing death, two counts of careless driving causing bodily injury and a commercial vehicle rules and regulations violation.
