My pro-99 has the option to program those in there with the freq, does it make a diff with recpetion ( i know it'll block out the other guys) but does it affect the reception of the freq to have that on?

it will help to block out random bursts of static but beyond that it should affect reception positively or negatively

YES. Quite often it will cut out intermod and other signals that would break the SQ. I'm in a HIGH RF area. I use PL/DPL tone on everything that has it. Otherwise my scanner would stay locked down with digital pagers and all kinds of junk.
