I know they have not changed yet I still listen to them on analog. I read on the Cullman Sheriff web site that they had bought digital equipment for all the cars. The site is cullmansheriff.org

Motorola XTS 2500 portables.... Maybe P-25 conventional?

More than likely, since those are VHF antennas. That seems to be the new trend around here, maybe they won't use full time encryption like Tuscaloosa County and Jasper though.

OTOH, I can't find any new licenses or applications in the FCC database, and they haven't updated any of their old licenses for P25, so it makes you wonder if they are just going to use these as really expensive analog radios? Or migrate to digital in the future.

Cullman details

The County Sheriff, the City Police, and Hanceville PD are all in the process of going to P25 digital conventional on the existing VHF frequencies. (Motorola Astro) New repeaters, new radios--all base, portables, and mobiles. All three departments. The Cullman EMS is working toward this goal as well but probably a little slower.

Interesting. Do you know if there will be any encryption or when the switch to P25 might be completed?

No encryption. None of the cullman city vehicle fleet have been installed yet, so probably a couple of months. The County Sheriff cars appear to be finished, and everybody has new handheld radios already.

Thanks for the info! It's good to hear about an agency going P25 without encryption.

the fire departments are not going to digital P25, they do not have the funding. cullman EMS is 154.725 analog, but they may be working toward digital in the near future. (they have some new astro25 radios too)

yes, totally. I guess down the road it could always happen. Right now the timeframe has slowed and I'm thinking it will probably be 2 to 3 months on cut-over.

Started hearing Cullman SO using APCO 25 this morning on 155.655 wth a NAC of 218. I'm getting about a 75% decode on their signal here about 45 miles away. Cullman PD on 155.19 is using a NAC of 219 on their repeater. I get 100% decode on the PD system.

Hanceville PD has changed over as well-- all three agencies have changed over.

Cullman county & city of Cullman

The Cullman county Sheriff Department has went to using the P25 digital signal same with the city of Cullman. The county started using the P25 digital signal about 1 1/2 week ago. The city of Cullman started using the P25 digital signal about 1 month & 1/2 ago. I hate it because I can not hear what is going on around the city or county
