Hello, I have a BCD996P2 and I was doing a custom search of frequencies in the ranges of: 145.000 - 174.000 and I have it set up as FM and the Step as: 5.0 and I can’t remember if it worked before but while there has been talking going on some freq’s while I was doing the search, it would just keep searching and not stop on any of those active frequencies and I have nothing locked out and I tried everything I can think of and still doesn’t stop on any active frequencies, so I dunno. But when I do a Service Search of say the Railroad that works fine, it stops on any transmission on any of those frequencies. But for some reason like I said it doesn’t stop on transmissions when I am doing a Custom Search like I mentioned above.

So just seeing if anyone on here has had the same issue or might know what my issue is and what I need to do to fix it.

Let me know.

thanks

Try setting both the modulation and step to "auto" and see if that fixes things. Also make sure the attenuator is disabled.

I think Auto in that range is 12.5KHz, not sure what is normal in Canada.
couple of suggestions:
Try a smaller chunk of bandwidth. That will take a fair number of seconds to search through. I usually do 2 MHz at a time if I am trying to get a channel that is not real active.
Try hitting hold and turn the large knob until you get to a known channel. See if you can pick anything up like that.

Check broadcast screen settings that will be active during search but not during scan. The frequency ranges set in that will block those during search and closecall.

Ok yah I tried all of those and just now did I smaller search range of where I just was hearing talking on a frequency and nothing, didn’t stop on it, just kept scanning, but if I manually stop on the frequency, I will hear the people talking. So I dunno. So now I can’t do searches like that to come across other frequencies that might be in use. And everything else works. And like I said when you do a Service Search on certain frequencies like I mentioned the Railroad, it searches all those frequencies and stops on a active frequency when someone is talking but not during the search range I am trying to do. Weird.

So if anyone has any other suggestions, let me know, would like to get this figured out if I can.

Thanks

Actually I think I might of got it, I went again and set all band to off then went to set each Band and just turned on FM and then went back to my custom search of the frequency range I have set and tried it a few times and now it seems to be working, so I dunno if it had to do with all those other Bands being turned on and even though I was just doing a custom search range, it was still doing something with those other bands turned on. So will just have to make sure I only have the certain Band turned on for the custom frequency range I am doing.

Thanks for your help.

That's correct turning off some of the UHF bands removes some frequencys in some bands
