Burnsville Police/MN State Patrol HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, I have recently purchased a Pro-96 because of Dakota County’s transition into the new system. I am learning how it works slowly. I am able to hear Burnsville (4500) once in a while. When will just (I think that is a talk group) Burnsville so I can just listen to Burnsville. I am having no luck with hearing MN State Patrol; I have plugged in all talk groups for east and west. I was wondering if they use different towers. I think I have all in Dakota and Hennepin plugged in. What am I doing wrong? I would guess all of you would have more knowledge about this topic. Let me know what my problem is. I am using Win96 for my Pro-96 handheld. Thank you. People that have good info I would appreciate an email on this topic. ---- lionpowerzap@yahoo.com --- I will help someone else out some day and you would help me out with this. Thank you. I am dieing to get this setup right. I had to totally relearn how I operate my friend the scanner. ---- lionpowerzap@yahoo.com -------- Thank you and godbless you.

State Patrol is typically on the Metro 101 tower. If you'd like I could email you a copy of the win96 I use. Where are you located? That can sometimes have an effect on what you can hear. At least you are hearing something which is a start ;)

Help!!! Thanks!!!!

Hi, thanks for the information. I would appreciate an email very much. I live in Burnsville near County Rd 11 and Hwy 13. I really am excited to have this new technology scanner, but it can get frustrating when I am not too familiar with how to program it. I think I am doing it right. I would appreciate an email copy of your “Win96” and how you have it set up. I am looking for the towers in my area and for the agencies below. I don’t know if it is the wrong towers that I have loaded. When you send me an email, I will send you my number too. I would like to chat about this scanner a little bit. I appreciate it. Have a good one.

(I am big on karma; I know there is work to do this. I promise I will pay someone back with a kind gesture through my church.)

IF ANYONE HAS PRELOADED “WIN96” WITH SOUTH METRO AGENCIES LOADED PLEASE EMAIL ME A COPY OF YOUR PRELOADED TABLES. (AGENCIES: BLOOMINGTON, DAKOTA COUNTY (PD’S BRUNSVILLE AND NEAR), STATE PATROL, MINNEAPOLIS (WILL LISTEN WHEN I AM IN THE AREA, I KNOW IT WILL NOT REACH IN BURNSVILLE), AIRPORT PD, MINSEF.

Take a look at this link on RR - http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=4475
What does this mean. Is this a different system or what. Why does it have its own page. I am getting Burnsville (4500) calls on DK 2. What does this frequency/tower do or work with? PS. How can I hear Burnsville Fire. What is the talk group/frequency.

That belongs to a private company and is irrelevant to any public safety stuff.

This site is for AVR Concrete (Burnsville) The site is a private trunked system that has nothing to do with Burnsville PD (unless they need some concrete) ;)

You guys know your stuff. I really appreciate it and all who are new to the 800 MHz must fell the same. Thanks for the time on here to help and explain. I have the pro-96. I am getting a lot of Burnsville (4500) (p.s. is that the only channel for Burnsville the DK 2 with the talk group 04360?), and AV, and Lakeville. I bought the 800 MHz antenna to help reception. I was thinking of getting a roof antenna. What would you guy think for that. I want to hear the MN SP better. I have a hard time picking up the West Dispatch. I never hear the East dispatch. I also hear Bloomington once in awhile. I don’t hear the main dispatch in Bloomington much either. I think the roof antenna will take care of that. I have heard the best idea would be the Radio Shack model: 20-043, get some rg-58 cable and I should be good to go. Confirm this if you can. I wish there was an amplifier for my scanner. I think the only thing is the roof antenna. I just want more range and clear (not scratchy) communication. I know that everyone wants that, but I will do what ever it takes. Any ideas to help with this issue?

I don't know much about outdoor antennas, but it should help. As far as getting the state patrol your best bet is to try to get the metro main tower.

On a side note, if you're looking for more help from folks like us, check out the other thread in this forum about the upcoming scanner meeting. Lots of helpful and knowledgeable people there.

burnsvillemike,
The DK LMAIN 2 talk group is the primary operation talk group for Burnsville PD, the Lakeville and Farmington Police Departments are on this group as well. The back up talk groups are DK TAC 12 and DK TAC13 for these departments if there is emergency traffic (10-33) on DK LMAIN 2.

To listen to Burnsville Fire you need to listen to DK FMAIN W (Dakota Fire Main West). Burnsville, Eagan, Lakeville, Farmington, Rosemount and Apple Valley all share this main for paging and enroute/arivial traffic. Each agency also has it's own op's talk groups as well as fireground's for operations (DK FGR4 through 8).

Pro96 and Dakota Country

Anybody have a clue why there have been new radio traffic from county utility workers and road workers coming over "locked out" talk groups? I have a Radioshack Pro96 and they come up as "Mot: 14333" and other numbers similar. How are they getting on to my locked out channels where I only listen to state patrol on? Any information would be great.

That crap happens on my BC 796 quite a bit also... I'd say it's from low signal in my case....

I am using a BCD996XT. I have the control channels and other site freqs entered. Even if I have a t/g locked out I will get it if they are on one of the three sites I am listening too. Unless I have the scanner set to "ID SCAN" instead of "ID SEARCH". In fact in ID SEARCH any ARMER t/g user can turn up. I frequently get out-of-area t/g ID's, as they must be passing through the area. I even picked up some "odd numbered" t/g's being logged that others said was impossible.
