re. Dane county ambulance numbering
I personally don’t know what or why the method is the way it is, but it seems that the numbers are relative to where the municipality is in the county west being lower numbers to higher number in the east; all with the exception of Waunakee (Rescues 24&26) and the city of Madison (Rescues 1-8). And for the most part all the rescues are even numbers, with a few exceptions. And there really is no correlation between the police numbering and the ambulance numbers. So as for the overall county like I said Waunakee is the oddball of what I believe to be the system of basically left to right, or west to east. Mazomanie being the furthest west being rescue 28 and then Cambridge being the last with rescue 92. Also Dane county has a backup ambulance that can be used by any of the Dane County services, for use if an ambulance is out of service for whatever reason, or special events. Typically they will go by whatever ambulances number that it is temporarily replacing or if it is being used for a special even as an extra (iron man) it will go by Dane County Rescue 30.
I am a driver for Cross Plains and a Firefighter for Cross Plains also. And I really don’t know of how our numbering is decided but that’s the best I can say or assume, but if that helps you out then that’s what I know.
