Dare County's new P25 TRS in now online. The reported data channel is 859.9875 MHz. This is a six-site simulcast system that will eventually replace the older North and South systems.

XTS3000 radios are no longer in production. If you're getting them in Currituck, you're getting them used. Be cautioned that once Motorola discontinues a radio, they will eventually stop supporting existing radios as well.

I'm going to guess that Dare County will be going with XTS2500 radios, which will allow the user to fully access the new Dare County system as well as the VIPER system as the need arises.

Until March, you may hear some users on the county system testing their radios. "Formal" training on how to operate the radio controls and features begins during the first 3 days in March, and the agency representatives in those classes will be teaching what they learned in the class to fellow agency members.

All agencies are scheduled to switch over to the Dare County trunked system on March 29th, 2011.

Most public safety personnel will probably be using the XTS 2500, but there are reportedly some XTS 5000 and APX 7000 handhelds among the inventory. I have no information on mobile radios being installed in law enforcement, ems or fire vehicles.

One would assume that the reason for the APX radios would be direct access to the NPS VHF P-25 systems with a single radio? Pretty good investment.

Is there any word on when Dare will transition to the single-frequency county-wide simulcast paging frequency?

I heard a few officers testing them out and they were amazed at the quality. Said it was like they were in the same room, but they wished they had lighter battery packs. hahaha
