db meter signal

I use a 2.4g yag antenna and monitor its performance by the free utility
wifi sistr on my pc screen. its for a laptop. when the signal is -75 to-80
you cannot download worth a damn. But sometimes,infrequently, with that lousy db
you Can download fast. Why is this?? any info on this??

I would guess that the speed is going to be related more to the router settings rather than signal quality.As long as you have an uninterupted signal from the pc to the router.Does this occour on the same router?

My guess.

Signal quality is Signal:Noise, not just signal level.

-80 and no noise is much better then -60 and -65 noise!

BER is the output, signal to noise or carrier to interference is the input.
