I wonder if anyone can help me out on this.I recently purchased a BC396XT,had it programmed and it was working fine. However a few days ago i started to familiarize myself with the various functions of the scanner.
Now I get dead air every five seconds or so during every transmission.Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Dead air... as in your transmissions cut out? Sounds like you maybe have one of the Close Call modes or perhaps a Priority mode turned on. I'd start by checking those. Also, did you program you radio by hand or with your pc? If you did it with your pc maybe reload your file to get back to square one.

Sounds to me like you have the Close call feature set to priority. I like the DND mode better you dont get the few seconds of missed traffic, either turn it off or set it to DND. Another thing could be the weather alert mode may be turned on I have the 996T but I think the features are close.

Fixed

Thank you very much for that information. It was the weather alert. That was simple enough to fix. This scanner
is just a wee bit more complicated than my radio shack pro 29 i got about 25 years ago. Believe it or not ,it still works. Thanks again.
