Looks like DEC in Region 5 changed their PLs again. Both the Rangers and Encon Officers use the same frequencies now. 159.225 (various PLs) is used to talk to Central Dispatch and 159.435 (various PLs) is called "Tac" and used for car to car and to talk to the part time dispatch in Raybrook.

So far for both frequencies it looks like they are using:

131.8 - Gore, Blue and Black
173.8 - Whiteface

Are they doing this in the rest of the state? Anyone log any other PLs?

I just noticed 159.435 is called Tactical yesterday when they were getting rangers together to search for missing 3 year old in Northampton Beach campsite. 3 year old found and is OK.
Campsite operates on 151.250.

I can't help but wonder where the money is coming from to keep rearranging these big radio systems.

Logged 94.8 and 136.5 on 159.330 94.8 used to be Stamford Utsuyantha....But was coming in real weak. 136.5 was real strong and i live where i can hear stamford real well.... suggests that 94.8 has moved...i'll keep a ear out..."update 411 to 413 on Utsuyantha" 136.5 PL ...update 8N418 was just using 94.8 and it was scratchy but he said "On Buck" .............so it looks like

Stamford (Mt Utsuyantha) 136.5
(Buck) 94.8

Today I have Northampton Beach Campsite portables displaying 218.1 PL instead of 118.8
And now they are 118.8. This is most likely equipment shortcomings on my end. They are only running portables.
I will set up 3 radios to do a PL search and see what happens.

Thanks to the BC996, the portables are actually CSQ as MtnRider already stated. The 996 confirmed it while the cellphone store (Radio Shack) rigs kept stopping on all 118.8 and a few others.

THANKS UNIDEN !!!

Getting multiple CTCSS readings on a scanner is a good indication of CSQ.

Also, 136.5 and 131.8 on some scanners indicate reception of DCS codes. DEC uses CTCSS systemwide, but on unknown transmitters, it's good to check DCS also when seeing these tones.

Well.......thank you Dave. I had one scanner also running DCS search at the same time, but since I realized that DEC uses CTCSS, I didn't feel the need to mention DCS because some scanner wizard would jump all over that and try to correct me. When I do these searches I try to have all of the bases covered.

By the way, how's your list of Saratoga County talkgroups coming along ? I'm up to 31 (which someone would probably try to tell me that I'm not hearing )!! LOL

Multiple PL's

If you have enough channels in your scanner enter the frequency with each indicated PL. If your scanner shows counts or if it records per channel you can narrow down who is on which PL. And of course note what you are hearing live on each frequency and PL.

My talkgroup list is where it was. I'm still only hearing one weak site.
