If price was the same, which would you choose... 246T or a 785D? I do not monitor digital, radio would be used as a base with an external antenna and used to monitor all bands. Which would you pick and what are your reasons? Antenna's to be used would be a Diamond Discone and/or a Scantenna.

What about the BCT15? I'd bet that's what most people would pick (for that price range).

*edit* but if I had to pick between the 246 and 785, I'd take the 246.

If I had to pick between those two, I'd say BC246T for the rebanding issue alone.

But like the previous poster, the BCT15 would be a better choice.

I never took into account the rebanding issue. Will the 246t and BCT15 support the rebanding? Is this confirmed? I just dont want to make a mistake as funds are tight due to "martial" status changes towards the end of the year (I've heard it enough fellas, spare me the comments :) )

I was looking to stay away from the dynamic channel allocation as its something new and being a creature of habit, didnt like the sounds of it. I am going to have to familiarize myself I suppose with this type of layout. I like the 785d along with the 780 (old school I guess) for the ease of use and sensitivity. Looking at the BCT15, its a nice radio and since I do not need digital, I guess this could work.

I have the 246 and I adore it. However, if I were to buy now, I'd get the 330T. It's not a lot more money and has some great features and expanded coverage. Either one supports rebanding.

I love my 785, and when rebanding comes it's gonna make a great dedicated conventional scanner ;). If you are going to be trunking, go with the BC15. It will probably be my next radio purchase as well when the time comes.

Can anyone tell me how to identify if a scanner will be compatabile with the rebanding? I plan on making a purchase soon and would like to know what to look for. I plan on doing a search later to read up more about the rebanding but can anyone give a brief summary or highlight of what is going to be taking place? I spoke to a few people and have received conflicting information.

So far, the Uniden flash upgradeable scanners will be supported for rebanding via flash upgrade. Models include the BC296D, BC796D, BC246T, BCD396T, BR330T, BCD996T and BCT15. Older models including the BC285 and BC785 are not flash upgradeable and are not supported for rebanding. Future Uniden models will also support rebanding or will already be rebanded. As far as I have heard, the Radio Shack models PRO-96/PRO-2096 and PRO-97/PRO-2055 will support rebanding, but may require a trip to the service center for a chip upgrade. So far, the Radio Shack models made by GRE don't support flash upgrade of the firmware (except the PRO-96/PRO-2096 supports flash DSP upgrades). Radio Shack models made by Uniden (the newest ones) will probably be flash upgradeable for rebanding, but no official statement has been made as far as I know.
