Hello,

Have come across a program that decodes HF Weather FAX.
Haven't been able to decode any, though.

Live about 20 miles due West of Boston.

What would be the "most likely" daytime, and nighttime, frequencies to try ?

LSB correct for the mode ?

Thanks,
Bob

USB. If you're that close you should be able to get decent copy on the four Boston freqs. I'm in Baltimore and the only one I don't receive well is the 12Mhz one...

Almost always tune in USB and you may need to offset the frequency by 1.8 khz

Actually being in Boston and trying to hear NMF might be tough. On HF, you could be in the skip zone, although it's just possible you might get it via ground wave. It may be possible to copy them in the day on their lower frequencies, since you would not be depending on propagation to get the signal to you

The 4 MHz frequency is subject to local interference and an abundance of STANAG, so even if the signal was pristine I'd be out of luck. 6 and 9 Mhz are my go-tos, day or night. 12 Mhz is iffy no matter when.

It's the same way with WWV. When I lived north of Denver years ago. 2.500/5.000 would roll in about average via ground wave, 10.000 was almost always in the noise, I could never hear 15.000/20.000 unless I was around 20 miles from Ft. Collins, Colorado. WWVH dominated 10.000/15.000 just about nightly.

Just east of JHU, YouLoop, Airspy HF. There are days when I have to use the attenuator on AIRSPY to knock it down a notch or two to keep from overloading Black Cat Weather Fax. Weirdly enough, that's when the YouLoop is actually oriented East-West.

Unfortunately, the antenna location pretty much nulls anything west, so New Orleans is an occasional catch, and Point Reyes is a miracle. When the atmospheric gods smile a somewhat recognizable chart or two might come in from Northwood or Pinneburg, but that involves a burnt offering and the local fire department frowns on such behavior...

Nice copy...Spleen...73,s Marcy

A couple of links to Fax videos that I made up, hope they will be of some help, Steve

Also I attached a PDF File of the FAX frequencies and time table, hope this will come in handy
