The BNC connector on my scanner got dented when I was moving. I bent it back into place as best I could but it's still not 100%. I'm hardly receiving anymore compared to my old apartment, and I'm wondering if the BNC connector is the issue or if it's my new location. I'm on the 2nd floor surrounded by several taller buildings, one of which has, what I guess are, cell towers. I have a magmount antenna for my handheld CB radio that I was hoping would help, but still can't even get NOAA. Is this a connector issue or am I just screwed b/c of my location?

What scanner is that? Anyway, if the bnc took any kind of hit (you dont say how it got dented) or extreme pressure was applied, you may have a loose solder joint where the connector connects to the board. If your out and about, away from your location and cell towers, and still cant receive NOAA, then it's more than likely the issue. Do you own a soldering iron and know how to solder?

Radio Shack Pro-95, had it since I was a kid and I'm really interested in getting back into it recently and learning about the new capabilities by tying it in with my PC. I haven't tried taking it out lately, but I took the back off and everything looks good

how far away is your old place? Cruise over there with the scanner, you know how it worked there. If nothing. it's the radio, if it's hearing 'em then your new location is a PITA!

What new capabilities?

Where do you live (county/state) and what are you looking to listen to? That scanner has a fair amount of limitations now.

I would bet money, well maybe beer, that the connection may look good but is not. I have a few of those (95's) as well as a 93 and know I have had to solder a few over the years. You could try snuggling up the nut even tho the green paste looks undisturbed. Also that center pin, as it may look good there, but if I recall its the other side of the board where its soldered. That is where it may not be making a good connection.
