Agh! Another tough decision. It's between the Diamond RH77CA antenna, and it's extremely flexible, otherwise identical brother, the RHF40.

Anyone notice a performance suffering from the RHF40, even at total vertical, unbent? I carry my scanner in my pocket, all the time. I'm wondering that if I choose the RH77CA, that if something were to hit the antenna, that it would break/bend the antenna, or the SMA connector. The RHF40, I think, would bend and not cause any damage. To put it simply: is the flexibility of the RHF40 worth it?

Can anyone confirm my opinions?

My experience

Yes, I had my 396 in my pocket, using the SMA adapter for the RH77CA.
It got caught on something as I left my car and snapped the sma connector.

I went out & bought the Diamond version 77sma version.

I loved my 40.... it's flexiblity helped more than I had hoped... but that flexibility was what did it in as well... the inner ring on the antenna BNC soon wore and the thing would spin around in it's connection.... which made it a real problem (I carry that radio hanging from a strap around my neck and the spinning made it difficult to work)... If Diamond would beef up the connection so it won't spin after it wears I'd buy another one.... on an SMA adapter I think it might be a pain to work with because of the spinning AND the SMA adapter (my 77CA is attached to the scanner via a short length of dummy cord)...Currently using the 77CA and love it as well, it lives on my 396 now since that rides in my left breast vest pocket... an Austin Condor will reside atop the 96 when it arrives, and will alternate with an RS 800...
