Is it normal for the digital channels to sound like they are under water? It starts low then gets loud then low again during a sentence. I just got a 396 & have never heard digital before. I've tinkered with the p25 setting & #8 seems to be the best for picking stuff up but it still has that warbly sound quality. Should I just get used to it?

Yes. Digital sounds like crap. I would say get used to it or find something else to listen to.

Some days it sounds OK, some days it sounds like underwater. Sometimes it is unintelligible. And it is not necessarily the fault of the 396. Often the dispatcher will tell the mobile or portable it is "10-1" could not copy dring the same time I am experiencing the voice problems.

When I lived in San Diego, I occasionally heard the dispatchers tell deputies to repeat their last transmission because they went digital.

It's funny, I never noticed the analogue background hiss until I compared it to digital. It'll definately take some getting use to. Thanks all for your responses.
