DENVER -- Three people were shot overnight in two separate incidents and two of them died from their wounds.

A fatal shooting occurred in the 5500 block of West Mexico Ave., in Lakewood just before 1:30 a.m.

Police said a 21-year-old man and his friends were standing in an open garage when a Ford Escape or Jeep Cherokee drove by and someone opened fire.

Hours earlier, two men were rushed to Denver Health Medical Center after being shot just before 10 p.m. Monday. One of them later died from his wounds.

They were found in the area of Ohio Avenue and Federal Boulevard when police were called on reports of shots fired.

"There was a white large vehicle possibly a SUV, possibly a Ford 250 or 350 pickup truck, that was occupied by between two to three males that fled the scene south, said Denver Police Detective John White.

Police went door to door in a nearby apartment complex questioning residents about what they may have seen or heard.

A third shooting incident was reported just after 5 a.m. in Denver.

Police were searching for a suspect in the area of 44th Avenue and Filmore but there were few additional details available.
