If I upgrade my 436 for DMR, do I have to turn it on in one of the menus so it will pick up a DMR transmission while scanning by zip code and distance? Thanks.

Once you activate DMR (or NXDN, or ProVoice) by entering the upgrade key, there is nothing else that needs to be 'turned on'. If a specific agency, in the database, and also enabled based on the range and location information that you set, the conventional channels, or trunked system, would be enabled to be scanned along with everything else.
There are, however, a number of DMR or NXDN systems and frequencies in use, but they have not been documented & submitted to the database. Those would have to be manually entered until such time as they are added to the RRDB.
So, if i scan between frequencies, will it display DMR on the screen of the received frequency?
