Since I returned to class in Huntsville, I have noticed that the DPS Conroe Repeater has not been active. Did they change something?

I also Attend Sam Houston and listen to Huntsville SO, FD, PD, EMS and SHSU PD. I also have DPS programmed in, and I believe the Conroe repeater is still the same, but the troopers and dispatch have started using their MDT's alot more. I did a ride along with DPS not to long ago and he said they are starting to use them alot more.

Edit: I do still hear the repeater quite a bit though.

Oh heck, I think the Conroe dispatch center was eliminated. I forgot about that. Let me verify that before I post it as a fact...

Picked it up again on Thursday. The signal does seem somewhat weaker, though.

Conroe dispatch is still there. I hear them quite a bit. Most of the time I hear 28s & 27s being run. I never hear the troopers but dispatch talks quit alot. I do hear them alert all units on reckless drivers over the air on Conroe dispatch.

Are you talking about the B1 155.445/154.695 half-duplex pair in Montgomery County or the repeater on 159.2175 up in Walker County? Both are correct as listed and active; I heard the Conroe dispatcher come across both at the same time during a pursuit on Saturday night with mobiles being repeated on the B1 pair.

We're talking about 159.2175 in Walker County. I think it must have been some sort of error in my 396XT because I had to delete the 151 NAC code, search for it, and then save it again.

Update: Conroe is on a list of future dispatch center closings. They want to consolidate it with Houston Dispatch. The word I am getting is that they want to consolidate every region's dispatch centers to the regional HQs only. That would suck for dispatchers and troopers alike. This is not final yet. I will send more info when I get it.

Wow. That's quite a cut, I was hoping Perry could protect the state law enforcement community from the budget cuts, but they were forced to cut by 5%. That means only 6 dispatch centers (though if I were a betting man, I'd bet Austin stayed open also). They would be:

Reg. 1: Dallas
Reg. 2: Houston
Reg. 3: McAllen
Reg. 4: El Paso
Reg. 5: Lubbock
Reg. 6: San Antonio

It'll be interesting to see how the comm centers split these up. It'd make more sense for San Antonio to retain control of the Junction repeater, than to send it all the way to El Paso, just because it's in Region 4. I bet there are many instances where overlap occurs and necessity will force the closer of the comm centers to handle the traffic, even if it's a different region.

That would suck for dispatchers and troopers alike.

I can't imagine how confusing it would be, especially trying to coordinate troopers in areas unfamiliar to yourself. I've heard some hectic nights in a dispatch center, I can't imagine their areas of responsibility doubling (or tripling) in size.

If the forecast is true, I'd imagine it would be handled by Houston.

I find that kind of odd, considering that they moved to a new building last year. If we merge with Houston, that would be an awfully big area, extending all the way into Leon, Milam, and Robertson counties. It would be more likely we would merge with Austin, because some areas share both districts, unlike Houston, which only extends to Waller County.
