Listening to Dis 4/8/6 I herd the term "Patrol xxx" Does any one know who they are referring to ?
Also, How are the MVD units identifying on DPS Channels
MVD Law Enforcement uses their own talkgroups that are patched to their VHF. Patch ends once the build out is complete. I can't recall ever hearing MVD on DPS radio.
ADOT listens to DPS. Their protocol is to use their dispatch before calling on DPS radio. In Phoenix TOC is usually the go between person from ADOT to DPS.
ADOT's Enforcement & Compliance Division officers, who are now a separate division from MVD by the way, use TG 1108 Tac 1 and TG 1109 Main (they may have others), in addition to their VHF-High channels 154.9050 and 156.1200.
I don't know if or how it is done now, but back in the day, AZDOT was switched over to DPS comm centers in Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Tucson for monitoring after hours and weekend/holidays.
Now that Flag is closed and Phoenix has an AZDOT traffic center, it may well have changed.
The "Patrol" units are the commanders. Patrol 500 is the District 5 Commander, Patrol 600 is the Dist 6 Commander and so on. DPS doesn't have Lieutenants. They go from Seargents to Captains.
It's accurate that DPS doesn't have lieutenants, but I believe the district commanders (captains) use just the number of the district, i.e., 500, 600, 1300, etc. unless that has changed. I've never heard "Patrol 500", just "500." Most of the times I hear Patrol it's a double digit odd number, i.e. Patrol 31.
Anyone affiliated with DPS who actually knows the answer??
