Hello all My name is Dave, I am new here and to SDR radio. I have things up and running. I recently purchased DSD fast lane.. I hate to ask but what is the best way to install these updates. I went thru the process but not sure if the files extracted properly. I got winrar for extraction. Is there a different unzipper that is free? I have had problems with winrar in the past.. I may asking other questions as I go.. I want to utilize this software more comfortably and to its full extent. I have a few other questions but will try and search them before posting.

Thanks a huge bunch in advance!! Dave

When you get your update from the fastlane, I believe they name it with a .ZAP extension. Just rename it to .ZIP and then windows 10 operating system will extract it if you right-click on it. Then copy and replace the files you get from the ZIP file into your working folder and all should be good.

Nope, haven't seen any zap files since they stopped emailing attachments.

Nope, Windows won't process the password-protected FL zip files. Isn't there a currently-active thread about using WinZip or WinRAR to extract the FL files?

Sorry, I couldn't remember if they did the ZAP thing or not. I know they use to. I use WinRAR to extract it, just right click the zip file and use the "extract to..... a folder" or "extract here". I like to extract the files to a folder by themselves and then file copy them into my working folder, but that's just me. Thanks for the correction slicerwizard!

My DSD plus fastlane keeps indicating there is an available update when I open it. Is this something new or will we still get the updates via email?

I think one of the common mistakes made is some users delete old files when a new version comes out.
Do not do that! Simply overwrite the old with the new and keep everything else.

I create folders with the current version number as the folder name and copy all the files into that folder as a backup before I overwrite any files with the new versions files.
This allows me to go back to any version since becoming a fastlane user. I may leave the large WAV file that is created out of my backup folders but I copy everything else.

Do you need the large .wav file? That's the type of unnecessary disk flogging that "-O NUL" prevents.

It sounds silly, but that's also why I mark important folders (like stock program folders, not the ones I run) 'Read Only' in windows setup, or set file perms on my *nix boxes to '444'.

It just tends to prevent most 'fat finger' issues, or acts of dog.

Disk storage is so cheap today that keeping backups is easy as long as you have some kind of order about it so you can find things when needed.

For the large .wav file, I do create and keep it for a bit on the chance I catch something good. Usually I don't catch anything worth keeping though so the file is deleted. Especially when it has grown so large that finding a specific audio clip in it would be painful. That's when the Del key is much easier.

No dog here but cats are another story. They climb and sleep on the keyboards so locking things is a must.
One darn cat did a job on a Surface Pro once. I'd removed the keyboard but forgot all about its touchscreen. This cat managed to paw the screen when it saw its reflection and somehow it deleted several desktop icons.

why not use "-PTmp3"? Instead of a bloated raw .wav file you can get per-tranmission mp3s in order.
