I recently picked up a BC246T and programmed it in for some Durham (Whitby, Oshawa) area Motorola trunked systems, I can pick up Police, Fire, EMS and such however there is very little talk sometimes, do I NEED to input all TGID's to hear them? I've been leaving it on ID SEARCH and I assume this will show any active ID when it picks it up. Is this correct?

I don't suppose anybody has a BC246 with a Clone246 file I can put on it?

my understanding is that Durham Police is on the iDent system so you will not be able to receive them.. Fire you should be able to get and EMS maybe under fleetnet.. Best answer for you is to grab ARC246 software and you can go to my yahoo group and download files to program your radio.. But you will still have to buy the ARC246 software or use it in demo mode..

You aren't going to get Durham Police as they are on the Telus iDEN "MiKE" system (despite my *****ing, Telus isn't paying me for the right to use my name yet...). You will be able to get pretty much everything else out there.

Keep in mind, Durham EMS is on the Bell Mobility Radio Fleetnet VHF trunking system, but your radio will track that no problem as well.

Do you know if there's any interop going on between the ambulance services and the agencies on trunked 800 like Durham? Some kind of patchgroup or do they (the Durham trucks) have to carry additional VHF radios to use some kind of conventional channel? Or do they, like when I last lived in Pickering, not bother communicating at all? :D

So far none. So far interop has been by phone or personal contact.

Thanks. The ones on the GTA Yahoo! group are for ARC246 and frankly, I prefer the bcTool UI despite the fact that it's still in BETA - also helps that it's an open source and free alternative.

The BCTool does not include the full trunk yet. Only trunk main details and channels. No TG's. But Rob is working on it now..

I have a shell script that can convert for trunk to a bctool CSV that has been working, albeit kludgy, for a few days. Oh, holy crap it can already import dotMEM's.

I will finish the script and post it until full trunk capabilities are merged into bcTool.

My buddy works in a factory and they use a mike radio and the cool thing about the mike radio is it has 2 parts in one a radio and cell phone in one .But the boss hates it when the guys talking to the girlfriend at home and they foot the bill :p

Sure makes the day go faster at work.I don't know about Telus or iDEN at all but I do hear some times the Tac guys in peel say call me on the mike radio.

Are the D units in Durham using the mike phones or are they using iDEN ?What would the frequencies me or are the frequencies blocked?

MiKE is TELUS' brand name for iDEN networking.

iDEN uses TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) modulation on 800MHz cellular telephone (and business band trunking) frequencies.

Search for iDEN in the forums (or better yet, the wiki) to learn more.

I think you'll find the IDEN confined to the business bands only.

Telus does offer PCS telephone service on the 1.9Ghz band but no MIKE.

It's the same thing. Mike phones use the iDEN network.

Yes, their detectives carry iDEN phones. When you think about it, iDEN is great for undercover work. The handsets look just like a cellphone, and the radio part can be used in "private" mode with the phone up to your head just like you were on a phone call. A lot less obvious than talking on a radio :) Of course you can get all the surveillance earpieces for iDEN sets as well.

...so long as you're fine with being on a network where it's possible to have your comms 'busied out' because someone else (civilians) is yakking about getting more 'bling'. ;)

One of the big concerns my agency had when they rejected creating a backup iDEN network for our chiefs was that there was no way to guarantee absolute priority over everyone else.
