Well I got sick and tired of seeing this dust inside my 396t display so I fixed it,
this is how if your inclined to do it, very simple.
- unplug the scanners AC Adapter from the side of the scanner
- pull the scroll,Vol, sql nob off the scanner
- un-screw the BNC/SMA Adapter
- take the battery compartment door off
- take the batteries out
- unscrew the six screws on the back cover
- screws= 2 at the top, 2 in the middle, 2 at the bottom
- gently pull the back off the scanner
- at the top left and right sides of the scanner blow into the scanner.
- Problem fixed
- now just reverse what you have done and your back too scanning without the dust in the display.
Also should have told you if for some reason this does not work and the dust is still on the display, there are six silver screws that hold the scanner board in place unscrew these six screws 2 at the top of the board, 2 in the middle and 2 at the bottom. gently lift the hole board up, there are only two wires at the bottom of the board that are hooked to the speaker so don't lift the board too hight but you will be able too see this very easy, then you have room to get right to the display and clean the display and make sure you clean the plastic window too.
Now just reverse everything you have done and your back too scanning, just go slow and you won't dammage the scanner and you can save some time and money by not having to send the scanner in to be cleaned.
