I am getting encrypted traffic right now on TG 14864 on SRRCS.

I have this TG tagged as the old Folsom Dam Police TG before they went to SD SC1.

i think it's a pretty safe bet that it is going to be used for folsom dam security. They must be doing radio service checks right now. Folsom Dam Security never had this much traffic. SRRCS kept the few p25 tgids on the system 4 digits long. this would be the first documented one with a longer tgid, and it just so happens to be the old folsom dam security tgid? I don't think it's a coincidence.

Oh well... not like we're missing out on anything interesting with that talk group. I don't look forward to missing out on Special Ops Traffic though... I'm sure encryption is on it's way for that. It's just a matter of changing a few settings and reprogramming radios anyway.

Apologies in advance for the rambling:

100% of the transmissions i heard on that tgid were sadly, encrypted. *sheds tear*

Like I said, I'm pretty sure Sac PD and Sac Sheriff will have at least a couple of encrypted talkgroups, perhaps ones designated for certain types of special ops (Narcotics, SWAT, etc) or perhaps just one or several encrypted talk groups that can be used as needed (during a SWAT incident for instance).

I don't know how they'll do it, but I'm sure it's not too far behind. The footwork of programming radios and updating end user equipment is probably in the process if not started already.

I know from seeing the radios (at the cap air show) in AIR 1, and Placer County's Falcon 30 that they've got ASTRO radios (P25 Capable Radios) but I don't know if they're programmed for p25 yet. They almost certainly don't have any new p25 talkgroups programmed in that aren't in the database.

I do know that Sheriff McGinness is ALL ABOUT Transparency. What I gather from the way he operates that he probably won't have the main dispatch channels encrypted at all.

Sac PD is similar and I don't see them encrypting everything.

IF any of the departments on SRRCS were to do that (there's a very strong chance that they won't) it would be Elk Grove or West Sac. Disclaimer: I don't have any evidence that points to them actually encrypting all their departments channels, but they're... how do you say... less media friendly and therefore less transparent than other departments. That's not a knock on them of course, it's just how some departments operate.

I find it interesting that this pops up now. My understanding is that every radio on SRRCS will have to be reprogrammed when they reband the system and that's probably when a whole bunch of new talkgroups will pop up on the system (that way they don't have to keep programming batches of radios over and over). This leads me to believe that this is just Dam Security and not anything more because only a limited number of radios need the Dam Security p25 talk group... just dam security and dispatch.

wow that was a long post and i hope it made sense. I just realized I've drank about 10 cups of tea in the last 2 hours without realizing it. Thats my excuse.
