No digital or narrowband yet. If you live in Keene Valley you live in a bad spot to pick up a lot of the radio communications around the county. You are in a huge valley surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains. You are truly in the heart of the Adirondacks and a very beautiful area - gods country!

I would suggest you use really good coax (LMR 400) and get a really good wide band scanner antenna and mount it as high as possible. Make sure you have all the PL tones programmed in with the frequencies or you will pick up all kinds of interference and also make sure you program in all the New York State Police Troop B frequencies - you will hear most of your traffic on these frequencies.

You should also program all of the New York State ENCON, Forest Rangers and DOT frequencies. County dispatch on 46.46, 46.32 and 46.22 and the Sheriff's on 156.210 PL114.8. I would also program County Highway and your local highway department.

Good luck and have fun!

I would recommend 50 ohm coax. No place around Essex County that I know of unless you contact one of the radio shops like Wells Communications and Champlain Communications in Plattsburgh. I always order my stuff online. Did you program in all the state frequencies?

I programmed everything i can find in... also able to track clinton county's 800mhz system here in keene valley... about 48 or so miles... and yes it is the discone ant...
unfortunately coax is just some flimsy rg6 so yea coax seems to be my problem im sure now.... i live in a mobile home../ aluminum trailer and the only place to mount the discone is about the roof of trailer about 3 ft which probly is screwinf with my reception... but last eve and tonight it has been going nonstop with action... just cant pick up dispatch 46.32 or other local stations.... seems to have alot of noise between 45-47 mhz where all ems and what not is.... hope when they bring in the new system it will work better then current.... i heard Ray Brook asking the local sherrif 5 times to repeat or contact by cell...

If you live anywhere near the phone company switch house or the building with all the satellite dishes you will have a real hard time picking up any low band with out a decent low band antenna. The Verizon phone system in our area is extremely old and falling apart. The lines (especially around switch houses) emit all kinds of interference, especially around 46.32 that sometimes make communications nearly impossible. This is one reason why the county is switching to high band.

That is great that you can pick up Clinton County! The Forest Rangers are extremely active in your area and use all of their frequencies especially when doing rescues in the mountains. Also make sure you have National Grid and NYSEG programmed in.

Good luck..

NYSEG is still low band up here. They are slowly working on their P25 system but probably will not be online for a few years. NYSEGs frequencies are: 48.32 DPL 025, 48.22 DPL 024, 48.04 DPL 025.

The State Troopers do not use 159.435 and 159.225. The New York State Forest Rangers use 159.435 and the New York State Environmental Conservation Law Enforcement Officers use 159.225.

National Grid uses 151.235 PL 114.8.

Don't forget NYSDOT - 47.36 PL 156.7, 47.40 PL 173.8. County Highway - 45.68 PL 114.8, 45.72 PL 114.8.

Interesting. I work with a lot of EMS, Police and Fire agencies and there is no 800Mhz in this area. May have been something from Clinton County?

Lewis uses the exact same mountain top transmitters and frequencies that Raybrook does. You may not be able to pick up some of the distant mountain top transmitters that Lewis uses.. Belfry, Schroon, Gore, Black, etc...

NYSP Troop B

NYSP F-1 Troop Base to Car 154.905 167.9
NYSP F-1 Troop Car to Base 155.595 110.9 & 167.9
NYSP F-2 car to car 154.665 110.9
NYSP F-3 base to base 154.695
NYSP F-4 BCI Tactical 155.565 79.7
NYSP F-4 Tactical 155.565 110.9 & 103.5
NYSP F-5 Intersystem 155.370 multi
NYSP F-6 NYSPERN 155.475 156.7

Gore Mountain has a clear shot into Keene Valley. A lot of agencies down south use Gore Mountain. 155.725 is Warren County Sheriff's which is also on Gore Mountain.
